Women’s Soccer Earns Fifth Straight Win

Gettysburg beats York (Pa.) 4-1

YORK, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team earned their fifth straight win as the Bullets defeated non-conference foe York College (Pa.) on the road Wednesday night.

How it Happened
First Half:
  • Gettysburg wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Bedell carried the ball down to the left wing, turned at the endline and chipped a pass to Slevin who one touched into the nearside left post five minutes into the game.
  • In the 28th minute, Priddy played a short corner kick from the left corner to the top of the box. Gaudian collected the ball from about 25 yards out and hit a rocket into the upper right 90 for the goal, her first of the season.
  • Nine minutes later, the Spartans cut the lead in half as Georgia Gillcrist dished the pass to Rachel Wilhelm for the tally.
Second Half:
  • The Bullets notched two more goals in the final half as the first came with 61:09 on the clock. Muskus intercepted and slid a pass to the middle of the field as Bedell ran to the ball and finished in the middle of the box inside the right post.
  • With 16 minutes to go, the Orange and Blue registered their final goal as Cenatiempo carried the ball to the endline and centered it to O'Shea for an easy finish.
  • The defense played outstanding as the Spartans only had four shot opportunities in the final stanza and only two in the last 21 minutes.

By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg outshot York 14-7.
  • Cunningham finished with four saves and Cat McCarty turned aside five saves for the Spartans.
  • Muskus has either scored or had an assist in the last five games.
  • The defense has been stellar all season as the Bullets have only allowed three goals against in five games.
  • The last time the Bullets have opened the season with five straight wins was during the 1993 season.

The Bullets now lead York 9-3-2 in the all-time series that dates back to 2006. Five of the 14 matches between the two sides have gone into overtime. Gettysburg has now won the last six matches against the Spartans. In the series, Gettysburg has outscored York 17-5.
