Birk's Five Point Effort Leads Hopkins Over Muhlenberg, 4-1

The Basics
• Score: #10 Johns Hopkins – 4, Muhlenberg - 1
• Records: JHU (10-2, 5-0 CC) MC (7-5, 2-4 CC)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: The 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team's second half scoring spree led to a 4-1 win over visiting Muhlenberg Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• After 20 scoreless minutes, the Blue Jays took their first lead of the game. Senior Katie McErlean sent a ball up the sideline to sophomore Abby Birk. Birk collected the pass and centered the ball back into the circle; wasting little time, McErlean one-timed the ball into the top left corner of the cage past goalkeeper Jordan Segrave.
• The Mules fought back and found the equalizer off a corner just seven minutes later. Junior Sophie Beeler sent the ball to freshman Alexandra Gann right outside the circle. Gann gave it right back to Beeler on the wing and Beeler capitalized, sending the ball into the back left corner past goalkeeper Kaitlin Hall.
• Hopkins pushed its lead in the third quarter, scoring two goals just 49 seconds apart. McErlean received the ball off a corner and lifted the ball past her defender to fire off a shot towards the cage. Sophomore Bryn Rolon tipped the ball into the net for a 2-1 advantage. Just 49 seconds later, Birk found the ball in front of the cage after a blocked shot and capitalized off the rebound.
•  An unassisted goal from Birk in the last five minutes of play solidified the win for the Blue Jays. Birk picked up her fifth point of the game with two goals and one assist on the day.

What it Means

• Today's win marks the sixth straight on the season for JHU and the Blue Jays have scored four or more goals in five of those six wins.
