BRYN MAWR, Pa.—No. 14 Swarthmore College Men's Swimming fell by a narrow margin in Friday night's matchup with the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats. The meet was decided in the final relay with F&M slipping past Swarthmore in the 400 free relay 3:06.67 to 3:08.19.
The first individual win of the day came in the 100 back as freshman Horace Shew swam the heat in 51.69. Shew earned another win in the 200 back, taking first with a time of 1:55.80. He completed the trifecta in the 200 IM, winning with a two-second advantage and a time of 1:57.05.
Freshman Alex Hatzikos impressed again in the 200 fly, finishing in 1:59 flat.
Junior Alec Menzer outlasted his opponents in the 500 free, returning to the wall in 4:51.79.
Freshman Lonnie Chien swam to first in the 100 fly (51.97) to wrap up Swarthmore's individual wins.
Swarthmore (1-1) returns to the pool on Saturday at 1 p.m. to host Ursinus College.
