Luke Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Saint John's College) and senior
Ray Martin (Downingtown, Pa/West Chester Henderson) each placed among the top four in their respective weight classes to lead the Gettysburg College wrestling team at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday.

Match Highlights
- Kowalski was Gettysburg's top finisher for the second consecutive event. The sophomore began his day at 133 pounds with a first-period pin and tacked on an 11-8 win over Hunter Thompson from Thiel College. After winning a semifinal bout by a 9-2 decision, Kowalski suffered his first collegiate setback at the hands of Lake Erie's Corey Gamet by an 8-6 score. Gamet is ranked 13th at 125 pounds in Division II. Kowalski is 7-1 overall this season.
- Martin won each of his first three matches at 174 pounds. The senior posted an 8-2 decision in his opening bout and picked up a pair of first-period pins against opponents from Washington & Lee and UMBC. He lost in the semifinals by technical fall (16-0) against Lake Erie's John Penfold, who is ranked eighth at 165 pounds in Division II. Martin did not compete in the third-place bout.
- Sophomore Russell Canova (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) placed sixth at 184 pounds. He won his opening bout with a two-minute pin and won a close 7-5 decision against Jack McCusker from Washington and Lee in his first consolation match. Canova earned a trip to the placement matches with a fall in 1:44 against Muskingum's Tate Sterling. The Gettysburg sophomore fell in the fifth-place match by major decision 18-8 to Ryan Weitz from Alderson Broaddus.
- Freshman Bobby Crofford (Morristown, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) and sophomore Antonio Abate (Northvale, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) combined for five victories at 125 pounds for the second-straight event. Crofford won both of his bouts by first-period pins, while Abate secured a pair of pins and a 13-1 major decision.
- Junior Jake Stein (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) won his first two matches at 141. He earned a 12-3 major decision over Donovan Ortiz from Ohio Wesleyan and tallied an 8-4 win over Damion Finnegan from Waynesburg.
