CHESTERTOWN, MD - No. 16 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball knocked off Centennial Conference foe Washington College (Md.), 65-56, Wednesday evening on the road. The Garnet (17-3, 11-2) extend its winning streak over the Shoremen (4-15, 1-11 ) to 16 games.
George Visconti led the offense with a game-highs in 21 points and eight rebounds. The junior guard shot 6-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. In 18 minutes played off the bench,
Vinny DeAngelo contributed with 16 points, while
Michael Caprise added six boards and three blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet and Shoremen opened the contest by exchanging baskets for the 12 points, with Caprise hitting the opening bucket for Swarthmore.
Aidan Godfrey knocked down a pair of layups as Swarthmore and Washington were tied at 6-6 after three minutes of action.
- With a little over two minutes remaining in the opening half,
Abass Sallah converted on a difficult layup to give Swarthmore a seven point advantage. Thirty-seconds later, Godfrey added a three-point basket to give the Garnet their largest lead of the half at ten points. Swarthmore went into the locker room with a 32-24 lead.
- After opening the second half with a layup, Caprise blocked and grabbed a defensive rebound on an attempted Tray Wright layup. The ensuing possession saw the sophomore forward find Godfrey for an open jumper.
- On an inbounds play,
Conor Harkins found DeAngelo for a fast break dunk to close out the game as Swarthmore took a 65-56 lead with .30 seconds remaining.
