#23 Swarthmore Powers Past Haverford

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - No. 23-ranked Swarthmore College Baseball comfortably defeated Centennial Conference rival Haverford 11-2 on Tuesday at Clothier Field.

The Garnet (17-10, 5-6) had a season-high 10 extra-base hits against the Fords (14-13, 7-4). Junior Jared Gillen and seniors Charles Levitt and Jackson Roberts all homered. The three of them are tied for the team lead with four home runs this season. Swarthmore had 19 total hits on Tuesday, and Haverford only had four.

Junior Ryan Warm started and pitched six innings to pick up his team-best fifth win on the season. He doesn't have any losses in 2019. Senior Charles Groppe pitched two hitless innings in relief, and freshman Oliver Hicks pitched one without allowing a hit.

Swarthmore has outscored its opponents by a conference-leading 118 runs this season, but the Garnet are currently in seventh place. Swarthmore's six conference losses have come by an average of 2.6 runs per game. The team has outscored its opponents by eight runs on average in its five conference wins.

Levitt, Gillen, sophomore Sam Jacobson and freshman Luke Mutz all had three hits in the win over Haverford. Roberts and juniors Holden Bridge and Cole Beeker had two hits apiece.

Levitt had five RBIs, two doubles, a home run and his Centennial-best 20th stolen base on the year. The stolen base puts Levitt at No. 2 in Garnet history with 59 for his career. The all-time record is 74 set by Chris Nolan in 1985.

Swarthmore heads to Haverford on Thursday for a game at 3:30 p.m.
