The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored early and often in a 10-0 home shutout of Centenary.
The 10 goals were one short of the school record set in an 11-0 shutout of Lebanon Valley in 1990. The Mules (4-0-1) reached double figures only two other times in their history, against both Western Maryland and Widener in 1990.
Freshman
Chris Richards contributed to half of the 10 goals, scoring two and assisting on three. He is the first Muhlenberg player to be involved in five goals in a game since Chris Bingman against Delaware Valley in 1987. Richards has a team-leading 15 points through five games.
Several Mules recorded career firsts. Freshman
Taylan Akdag notched his first career points with a goal and an assist on the first two goals of the game, and junior
Drew McDonald and sophomore
Noam Davidov did the same on the last two goals of the game. Freshman
Greyson King landed his first career point with an assist.
Senior
Kevin Hagan blasted a shot into the top of the netting off a pass from Akdag to get the ball rolling just 98 seconds into the game. A mere 1:12 later, at the 2:50 mark, Akdag put in the rebound of Hagan's saved shot to make it 2-0.
It was the first time the Mules scored twice in the first three minutes of the game since 1995, when they did it against both Franklin & Marshall and Western Maryland.
Richards scored his first goal after dribbling through the box later in the half and set up junior
Mark Winter for a goal that extended the lead to 4-0 by the end of the half.
Junior
Cameron Miller headed in a Richards corner kick early in the second half, and Muhlenberg truly broke the game open by scoring three times in a span of 4:43 midway through the half.Â
Although the Mules held a 35-9 advantage in shots, senior
Raymond Leto and junior
Lance Lysiak both had to make tough saves to combine on the shutout.
