Match Highlights
  • Martin dominated his four bouts on the way to his first championship of the season. He won each of his first two matches by pin late in the first round and defeated Gavin Hollinsworth from Alvernia University by major decision 12-4 in the semifinals. The sophomore broke out to the early lead against Ohio Northern's Shaun Wagner before laying his opponent's shoulders to the mat just over a minute into the second period.
  • Thompson scored a technical fall (16-0) and a decision (8-4) in his opening two matches before getting beaten by Andrew Lieb from Lake Erie 6-1 in the semifinals. The junior bounced back with a pin 21 seconds into the second period in his first match in the wrestleback. In the third-place bout, Thompson was denied a top-three finish with a 9-1 loss to Jeff Andrews from Ohio Northern.
  • Pelham wrestled a team-high six matches in the heavyweight division. He won three of those bouts by fall, including his opening contest against Drew McCullough from Adrian College. After losing the next match, Pelham ran off three-straight wins in the consolation bracket. He fell one win shy of a placement match with Mitch Dowd from Pitt-Bradford pinning the first-year.

By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg finished 11th out of 16 teams with 55.5 points at Waynesburg. Only six grapplers competed at W&L with the team accumulating 11 points.
  • Martin upped his season record to 17-7 with 12 of those wins coming by fall. Saturday's performance marked his second collegiate title. He won the 157 bracket at the Gettysburg Invitational in 2018.
  • Thompson reached the consolation final at Waynesburg for the second consecutive season. He improved to 17-10 this season.
  • Martin tied James Penfold from Lake Erie College for the most points scored during the Waynesburg Invitational with 23.
  • Gettysburg has featured champions at the Waynesburg Invitational in each of the last two seasons. Last winter, Colin Kowalski '19 and Paul Triandafilou '19 won the brackets at 174 and heavyweight, respectively.
