SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Behind a fast start, the Ursinus Men's Lacrosse team kept its momentum going with a 17-9 win on the road over Swarthmore on Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

With the win, the Bears improved to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in Centennial Conference action as they earned their third-straight win. Meanwhile, the Garnet fell to 8-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Senior Tommy Reinhart got the Bears on the board at the 13:46-mark during their first possession of the game. The Garnet responded just under a minute later with a goal to tie the game at one before junior Jake Ojert put the Bears back on top at the 11:46-mark following a quick clear and a blast from the top. Junior Jeremy Calabro made it 3-for-3 on shot attempts for the Bears to open the game as his behind-the-back shot beat the Garnet goalkeeper to put Ursinus up 3-1 at the 11:06-mark. Junior Tyler Falco extended the Bears lead to 4-1 at the 9:48-mark, capping a run of four-straight shot attempts finding the back of the net to open the game. Swarthmore snapped the Bears run on a goal with three minutes remaining in the first quarter to cut the deficit down to 4-2. Just like he did in the first quarter, Reinhart scored on his first shot of the new quarter to put the Bears up 5-2 and Falco quickly extended the lead to 6-2 just 20 seconds later following a faceoff win. Calabro extended the lead to 7-2 with his second goal of the game at the 8:23-mark before the Garnet tallied back-to-back goals to cut the deficit down to 7-4. Sophomore Eddie Newman then recorded his first goal of the season with 4:09 left in the first half and put the Bears back in front by four goals at 8-4. Swarthmore took a timeout after winning the ensuing faceoff and scored to make it an 8-5 game. The Bears killed off a penalty that was enforced after the Garnet's goal and Reinhart capped off the possession with a goal to put the Bears up 9-5 with 1:47 left in the first half. Swarthmore scored 32 seconds later to make it a 9-6 game which would be carried into halftime.

Falco kept the theme of the Bears striking early in new quarters going to start the second half as he gave the Bears a 10-6 lead with an underhand shot from distance. Sophomore Brett Wilkinson kept his strong stretch of play going by following with his first of the game just 25 seconds later. The two goals started a four-goal run in the third quarter to give Ursinus complete control of the contest. Sophomore Joshua Toth extended the Bears lead to 12-6 at the 9:20-mark after a fast break clear was led after a save from sophomore goalkeeper Jonathan Singer. Junior Tyler Neal then broke onto the scoresheet just under a minute later after breaking free from two defenders from the left side to make it a 13-6 game. The Garnet tallied back-to-back goals to cut the Bears lead down to 13-8, but Newman ended the quick burst by netting his second of the game after junior Erik Ojert found him breaking into the middle near the crease. Swarthmore scored on their first possession of the fourth quarter to make it a 14-9 game, but that would be as close as they would get the rest of the way. Ursinus scored three-straight goals to end the game and preserve the win at 17-9. Reinhart started the final run with his fourth and final tally of the game at the 6:38-mark and Falco matched Reinhart with his fourth goal of his own just under a minute later. Jake Ojert put the bow on a resounding performance for the Bear with a goal at the 3:03-mark following a lengthy possession.

The Garnet edged the Bears in shot 43-42 despite the final score but Ursinus held a 26-21 advantage in shots on goal. Swarthmore also held a 37-32 advantage in ground balls and in faceoff wins at 16-14. Singer bounced back to earn the win for the Bears by making 13 saves in the full 60 minutes of action. The Garnet had two goalkeepers split the 30 minutes as Shane Nachshen suffered the loss after making six saves in the first 30 minutes while Jack Ballou made three saves in the second half. Reinhart and Falco each led the Bears with four goals apiece and Newman, Jake Ojert, plus Calabro all tallied a pair.

The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 23rd as they will take on McDaniel at 3 p.m. in Centennial Conference action.
