Blue Jays sweep Ursinus, move to 25-0 on the year

Box Score The Basics
• Score: #8 Johns Hopkins – 3 • Ursinus – 0 (25-14, 25-7, 25-17)
• Records: #8 Johns Hopkins (25-0, 8-0 Centennial) • Ursinus – (6-16, 0-8 Centennial)
• Location: Collegeville, PA • Helfferich Hall
• The Short Story: The eigth-ranked Blue Jay volleyball team extended its winning streak to 25 matches Saturday with a three-set sweep of Ursinus. With the win, Hopkins clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament for the tenth straight season, and can finish no worse than second in the regular season conference standings.

How it Happened

SET ONE
• With the backing of the home crowd, Ursinus jumped out to a 5-1 lead before Eleni Panagopoulos tallied back-to-back kills, and Simone Bliss added an ace to cut the deficit to 5-4.
• A Louisa Kishton kill sparked a Hopkins 6-0 run that would give the Blue Jays a lead they would not relinquish. Lauren Anthony and Panagopoulos added kills during the run, and Nicole Hada tacked on an ace to put Hopkins ahead 10-6.
Hannah Korslund was credited with her first kill of the match to extend the Blue Jay lead to 18-10. Panagopoulos tacked on two more kills to make it 21-11, and Hopkins would take the first set 25-14 on an attacking error from the Bears.

SET TWO
• Hopkins would score 16 of the first 18 points of the second frame. Hada ran off 14 straight points from the service line, including three aces during the 14-0 Blue Jay scoring run.
• After putting up a .387 hitting percentage in the first set, Hopkins came out with one of their best games of the season, hitting .611 from the floor in the second set, totaling 11 kills on just 18 attacks.
• Korslund finished off the second set for Hopkins with her third kill of the match.

SET THREE
• Ursinus came out strong in the third set, leading 9-8 after the first 17 points. A Kishton kill led to a 5-0 Hopkins run that would ultimately put the Jays ahead for good. Back-to-back kills from Bliss gave Hopkins a 13-9 advantage.
• Another Kishton kill put Hopkins ahead 21-14, and the two sides would exchange points until Bliss gave the eighth-ranked Jays match-point at 24-17. An error from Ursinus gave Hopkins its 25th-consecutive victory.

What it Means
• Hopkins continues its dominance over the Bears, having defeated Ursinus in all 27 meetings between the two sides.
• With the win, the Blue Jays have now won 93 matches dating back to 2016. The 93 wins are now the second-most over a four-year span in program history. From 1997-2000, Johns Hopkins won 97 matches for the most victories over a four-year time period.
• The Blue Jays are now just four wins away from matching the program-record for victories in a season set by the 2012 club (29).

Up Next
Hopkins heads in to the final week of the regular season with plenty left to prove before postseason play kicks off. The Blue Jays will make the short drive to Gettysburg to take on the Bullets (13-10, 4-3 Centennial) Wednesday night before hosting Franklin & Marshall (18-3, 9-0 Centennial) in a winner-take-all matchup Saturday for the regular season conference title and right to host the Centennial Conference Tournament.
