Women's Soccer Blanks Arcadia, Advances to Haverford Kickoff Classic Championship

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (2-0) posted its second consecutive shutout on Saturday afternoon, blanking visiting Arcadia (0-1) by a 2-0 final at the Haverford Kickoff Classic on Walton Field. The Fords now advance to the championship game against TCNJ, with kickoff for that contest slated for 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Haverford scored the opener in the 20th minute, as Jaclyn Corbin scooped up the redirection from her previous blocked shot and fired home the opening salvo. The Fords kept up relentless pressure from that point forward, with Celia Page firing just high in the 26th minute before the Fords earned consecutive corners in the 31st.

The Knights had a few decent looks at goal, but the stout defense and Hannah Friedrich proved to be the difference makers, with the senior keeper being called into action for her second save just one second before the halftime intermission.

In the second, Page rocketed three consecutive Haverford shots before Sadie Kim rifled an attempt on frame in the 70th minute. A flurry of activity in the box saw Arcadia turn away two more challenges from Kim, and Mia Reyes then saw her shot miss just wide in the 82nd. Haverford broke through yet again in the 87th minute, with Alyssa Saito delivering a picture perfect pass to Page across the box, allowing the junior to finish lower left to double the Fords advantage at 2-0 with her second goal of the season.

Friedrich could not rest on her laurels with a two-goal cushion, as Amanda Thaler put a shot on target in the 88th minute. In total, Friedrich was called upon for four saves for her second consecutive clean sheet to open the season.

The Fords held a 13-10 advantage in shots, and a 6-5 corner advantage on a beautiful September afternoon. Page's six shots were a game high while Thaler, Madison Toyama and Morgan Giordano each took two for Arcadia. Arcadia had two goalkeepers splitting duty in the contest, with Gabby Green making one save and Juila Mendez grabbing two.

Haverford's victory over Arcadia was the program's first over the Knights since the 2015 campaign. TCNJ blanked Albright by a 3-0 final in the second game of the afternoon, setting up the 12 p.m. clash between the two sides. Haverford will be looking for its first win over TCNJ in program history, although the two sides have only met three times, with the last meeting coming at Walton Field in 2008.
