UMW Field Hockey Falls at Dickinson, 5-3, on Wednesday

The University of Mary Washington field hockey team dropped a 5-3 decision at Dickinson College on Wednesday afternoon, as the Eagles fall to 5-11 on the season.

The Eagles jumped ahead with the first goal of the game, as sophomore Emma Bernard opened the scoring at 6:33 on a Caroline Porter assist. The host Red Devils then reeled off the next four goals of the game, before UMW battled back.

Trailing 4-1, the Eagles used a goal from Katie Craddock with 4:37 remaining in the third quarter on a Bernard assist to draw to within 4-2, and cut the deficit to one with 9:05 remaining in the game on a Sydney Keating penalty stroke. Dickinson added a key insurance tally in the final five minutes.

Both teams took 17 shots on the day, and Dickinson held a 7-6 edge in penalty corners. Eagle goalkeeper Bailey McNabb made four saves in the contest.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, when they travel to Christopher Newport University in a Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference contest, starting at 11:00 a.m.
