GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Powered by victories in 13 of 20 events, the Gettysburg College men's track and field team won the team title at the Little Three Meet on Saturday in Musselman Stadium.
The Bullets finished with 176 points to beat out Dickinson College (146) and Franklin & Marshall College (73) while earning their first Little Three title since 2016, the last time Gettysburg held the meet. It was Gettysburg's 27th title in the history of the meet, which started in 1947. The Bullets hold the most first-places finishes, passing F&M who had 26.
Senior
Mike Cortese (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddon Township) and freshman
Corey Palazzolo (Colts Neck, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) were the two individual double-winners on the day, while nine other individuals won an event. Two of the three relay team's captured victories as well.
Coretese registered wins in the discus and hammer, tossing 115-11 and 140-1, respectively. Palazzolo claimed the high jump (6-3 ¼) and triple jump (37-11 ½).
On the track, sophomore
Colin Motill (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.81, while senior
Thad Cwiklinski (Glen Rock, Pa./York Catholic) and senior
Matt Robinson (Taneytown, Md./Pinkerton Academy [N.H.]) also grabbed wins in the 400-meter dash (50.66) and 1,500-meter run (4:08.41), receptively.
For the hurdles, sophomore
Matt Simmers (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills) secured the 110-meter hurdles (17.18) and sophomore
Nicholas Grissinger (Palmyra, Pa./Milton Hershey) took the top spot in the 400-meter hurdles (57.21).
In his first ever running of the 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior
Sam Sheldon (Tully, N.Y./Tully) won the event by 24 seconds, clocking 9:39.84, which is now the third fastest outdoor time at Gettysburg.
The 4x100-meter relay team of junior
Dylan O'Neil (Brownstown, Pa./Conestoga Valley), freshman
Kevon Musgrove (St. Petersburg, Fla./Clearwater Central Catholic), sophomore
Cael O'Brien (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), and Motill collected first with a time of 45.30. Freshman
Matthew Weller (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), freshman
Steven Heinbaugh (Fairfield, Pa./Fairfield), Grissinger, and Cwiklinski clocked 3:32.71 to gather the top showing in the 4x400-meter relay.
Junior
Ken Barnes (Edison, N.J./Westminster School [Conn.]) leaped 21-3 ¼ to notch the win in the long jump.
