Four Bullets Place at Petrofes Invite

Colin Devlin ’20 finishes third at 149 pounds

GRANTHAM, Pa. –
Senior Colin Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) finished third at 149 pounds and was one of four Gettysburg College grapplers to place among the top eight at the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah College Saturday.

Match Highlights
  • Devlin's run at the title was thwarted by Michael Heinl from Washington & Jefferson in the semifinals at 149. Heinl picked up his third consecutive decision victory over the Gettysburg senior 6-1. Devlin rebounded with an 11-4 win over Joseph Parsons from Springfield and ended his day with a pin of Jake Visintine from Mount Union 38 seconds into the second round of the third-place match.
  • After going 3-0 to reach the 141 semis Friday, Thompson was saddled with three close decisions Saturday. He was upended by Muhlenberg's Gregory Baum 7-3 in his semifinal match before dropping a pair of 7-5 decisions on the way to a sixth-place showing.
  • Martin earned a trip to the consolation final with a pair of strong efforts to open the day. He landed a 12-3 major decision over Gavin Hollingsworth from Alvernia in his opening match and put Alexander LaVeck from McDaniel on his back at 4:04 in the consolation semifinals. Angelo Mahaffey from Muhlenberg topped the Gettysburg sophomore 4-1 in the third-place match.
  • Larson was upended by fall in his first match Saturday, but the Gettysburg junior bounced back to win his seventh-place match 7-6 over King's Kade Kravits.
 
By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg finished seventh out of 19 teams with 76 total team points.
  • All four wrestlers competing Saturday posted their best finishes at the Petrofes Invitational. Devlin's previous best was fourth in 2017, while Martin and Thompson placed fifth and seventh, respectively, last season. Larson finished among the top eight at the event for the first time in his career.
  • Devlin ends the opening semester one win shy of 100 for his career. He would be the seventh Gettysburg wrestler to reach the century mark. The senior, who is 19-2 overall this season, picked up his 37th career fall to move into a tie for second on the program's all-time list alongside Lenny Ogozalek '18.

Gettysburg next competes at the on Jan. 4 with the squad splitting ways to go to the Washington and Lee University Invitational and the Waynesburg University Invitational.
