HOBOKEN, N.J.—No. 21 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer posted a 3-0 win over the NYU Violets on Sunday afternoon to the win the Engineering Cup for the second year in a row. Swarthmore had started the tournament on Friday with a 2-1 win over Vassar.
Marin McCoy, who scored twice on Friday, added a goal and an assist on Sunday and was named the tournament's offensive MVP.
McCoy put Swarthmore on the scoreboard in the seventh minute, firing in a free kick into the upper left corner of the goal.
Swarthmore tallied five shots in the first half and then ticked off eight more attempts in the second half.
The Garnet connected for their second goal in the 66th minute. Brittany Weiderhold scored after beating two defenders for her second goal of the season. Less than five minutes later, Sydney Covitz headed in a free kick from McCoy, pinging it off the crossbar and then across the goal line.
NYU took five shots total in the game. Amy Shmoys only needed to make one save over 90 minutes in the win.
Swarthmore plays at Dickinson College on Saturday for the first Centennial Conference game of the year.
