SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman
Kathrin O'Brien (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal School) posted a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters to lead the Gettysburg College women's track and field team at the 15th Annual Paul Kaiser Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University on Saturday.
O'Brien was the top Division III finisher in a field of 19 finishers, cruising the 5K run in 19:36.98. Her time was the best by a Bullet this season and was almost 11 seconds faster than the next Division III runner. She only trailed three DII runners and an unattached competitor.
Freshman
Katherine Mangione (Doylestown, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) battled windy conditions to place ninth in the javelin with a toss of 109 feet, 11 inches. She also posted a season-best in the discus at 104 feet, one inch on the way to finishing 20th.
Freshman
Anna Pienkos (North Haven, Conn./Sacred Heart Academy) finished in a tie for 10th in the high jump by clearing a season-best 5 feet, 0.25 inches.
Senior
Paige Wesolowski (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket Regional) and freshman
Caitlin Yap (Wayne, N.J./Morris Catholic) tied for 14th in the pole vault with leaps of eight feet, 10.25 inches. Yap finished two inches shy of her personal best, while Wesolowski notched a top mark for the season.
Freshman
Nicole Mangaroo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Polytech Prep Country Day) added nearly a foot to her season-long in the shot put, heaving 33 feet, six inches and finishing 28th. Other personal season-bests were turned in by freshman
Holly Ruvo (North Caldwell, N.J./Mount Saint Dominic Academy) in the 100 meters (13.41), senior
Colleen Campbell (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) in the 800 meters (2:33.08), and senior
Katie Bell (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) in the 800 meters (2:45.35).
Gettysburg competes at the Centennial Conference Championship hosted by Muhlenberg College on May 3-5.
