Marymount Holds Off Johns Hopkins, 52-39

Blue Jays Suffer Just Second Loss of the Season

The Basics
• Score: Marymount-52, Johns Hopkins-39
• Records: JHU (8-2) • MU (10-4)
• Location: Arlington, VA • Converse Family Fieldhouse
• The Short Story: Host Marymount got 17 points each from Gabriella Haddad and Katie McShea to beat the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team, 52-39, Wednesday night.

How it Happened
• The teams got off to a slow start as Hopkins led 6-5 after the opening quarter. After trading buckets to open the second, a Tyffani McQueen layup sparked a 10-0 run that put Marymount up 17-8 with 3:42 to go in the half.
• Senior Lillian Scott halted the run with a conventional three-point play that kick-started an 11-4 run to end the half. Scott and freshman Diarra Oden combined for all 11 Blue Jay points in the run as the Saints took a 21-19 lead at the break.
• Senior Maddy McGrath scored just 28 seconds in to the third to knot the score at 21. The teams traded scoring possessions and Hopkins led 25-24 less than three minutes in. Regan Lohr tied the game with a free throw and ignited an 8-0 spurt that gave the Saints a seven-point lead by the 5:02-mark. The lead see-sawed up and down over the remainder of the quarter and Marymount led 38-33 after three.
• The Saints came out firing to start the fourth quarter and pushed their lead to 11 by the 8:23-mark. Senior Rory Cole got the Blue Jays on the board with a fast-break bucket at 6:16 to cut the deficit to single digits, but a pair of McQueen free throws made it a 46-35 game at the midway point.
• Scott answered with back-to-back layups to make it a seven-point game with 3:08 to play, but Marymount would close the game on a 6-0 burst to secure the win.

What it Means
• Hopkins slips to 4-10 all-time against Marymount, with the Saints winning the last three meetings.
• The Blue Jays are off to their best start since 2011-12, when they went 9-1 in their first 10 games.

Inside the Box Score
• Scott was the lone Blue Jay to finish in double figures as she punched up 15 points. Cole meanwhile grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds and added a pair of blocks.
• Scott finished the game with 987 points and needs just 13 to become the 15th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
• Haddad and McShea scored 17 points apiece for the Saints, while McShea also had eight rebounds.

Up Next
• Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, January 5 as the Blue Jays travel to Haverford, PA to take on the Fords in Centennial Conference action. Tip-off at Gooding Arena is slated for 1:00 pm.
