Senior
Dylan Schwartz won the 165-pound title, leading the Muhlenberg wrestling team to a third-place finish at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
The Mules placed third, behind two nationally ranked teams, in the Petrofes for the second straight year. They have been going to the tournament since the 1980-81 season and had placed in the top three only once previously (second in 1992-93).
Schwartz, ranked ninth in Division III won both of his bouts on the second day of competition, one by major decision and one by decision, to become Muhlenberg's first Petrofes champion since Matt Horn in 2008. It was the second career tournament title for Schwartz, who is 12-1 on the season.
Four other Mules placed second or third.
Sophomores
Greg Baum (141) and
Luca Colestock (197) were both defeated in the finals. A day after
pinning the top-ranked wrestler in Division III, Baum decisioned the 2019 Centennial Conference runner-up from Gettysburg to reach the title bout, where he was pinned in the final minute. Colestock scored a second-period technical fall in the semis before falling 6-0 to the eighth-ranked wrestler in his weight class for his first loss of the season.
Sophomore
Angelo Mahaffey (157) and senior
Jimmy Fratantoni (184) won their consolation finals to earn third-place finishes. Mahaffey
(pictured above) dropped a respectable 5-2 decision to the No. 1-ranked 157-pounder in Division III in the semifinals before coming back with a pair of decisions. Fratantoni completed his tournament run with a major decision and decision.
Senior
Scott Schaeffer placed seventh at heavyweight.
