Post Game Interview

The Basics

• Score: Hopkins – 12, Susquehanna - 2
• Records: JHU (32-11) • Susquehanna (24-16)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Babb Field
• Pitching Decision: W – Jack Bunting (12-0) • L – Dillian Weikel (2-3)
• The Short Story: For the third straight game a Johns Hopkins pitcher went the distance as Jack Bunting went the full nine to pitch the Blue Jays into the regional championship game with a 12-2 victory over Susquehanna.

How it Happened
• The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as AJ King hit a one-out double to left center and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Pete Manny. The River Hawks tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a Justin Miller single to right.
• A six-run fifth put Hopkins in control of the game. Chris DeGiacomo plated the first run of the inning as his single scored Mike Eberle. An error on a King ball plated two more Blue Jays to make the score 4-1. Matthew Ritchie followed with an RBI single and Manny hit his second sac fly of the game to make it a 6-1 contest. Eberle later walked in a run to conclude the scoring for JHU and give Hopkins a 7-1 lead.
• Bunting retired the River Hawks in order in the sixth and after Davis made it an 8-1 contest in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly, Bunting worked around a one-out single in the seventh to keep JHU in the lead.
• King hit his second double of the game in the ninth to plate two more JHU runs and make it a 12-1 Blue Jay advantage. Bunting came out for the bottom of the ninth and Ben Burman led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. Miller then hit a two-out single to plate Burman but Bunting got pinch hitter Adam Schreck to foul out to Eberle and end the game.

What it Means
• The last time the Blue Jays gave up two runs or less in back-to-back NCAA Regional games was in 2004 in the first round of the Mid-Atlantic regional when Hopkins defeated Juniata 6-0 and St. Joseph's (NY) 7-2.
• The last time the Blue Jays threw back-to-back complete games in the NCAA regional was in 2009 when Marco Simmons threw a complete game against Washington & Jefferson and Chez Angeloni went the distance against Christopher Newport.
• JHU is now 6-0 all-time against Susquehanna.

Inside the Box Score
• The complete game was the second for Bunting this season and the sixth of his career. He gave up 10 hits and struck out four and did not surrender a walk for the sixth time in a start this season as he has surrendered just seven walks in 71.2 innings this season. The senior is now tied for the most wins in a single season with his 12 victories. Sam Eagleson went 12-0 in 2010.
• With his two RBIs, Davis now leads the team with 44 and also leads the team with 16 home runs, which is one shy of tying the program record.
• As a team the Blue Jays have hit 74 homers which is tied for the second most in team history, and Hopkins is now six away of tying the 2010 team for the most homers in team history (80).
