NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. –
The Gettysburg College men's golf team wrapped up its first round at the NCAA Division III Championship by shooting a 314 on the Champion Trace Course at the Keene Trace Golf Club Tuesday morning.

Playing its first round of national competition in a quarter century, Gettysburg finished in the middle of the pack of the 42-team field, tying with St. John Fisher College and Nebraska Wesleyan University for 24th overall.

The Gettysburg golfers turned in eight total birdies in the opening round, including four by senior Danny Harcourt (Fanwood, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep). After a slow start to his day on the back nine with two bogeys and a double-bogey among his first four holes, Harcourt dialed in and shot one-over on the final 14 holes. He finished with a five-over 77 and is tied for 81st among 216 golfers. Harcourt finished out his first NCAA round with a birdie on the par-4, 415-yard ninth hole.

Turning in the second-best score for the team was first-year Tristan Hochman (Westport, Conn./Staples), who finished tied for 93rd with a 78. Hochman capped the front-half of his round with a birdie on the par-3, 172-yard 18th hole and closed out his final nine holes at two-over par. The Gettysburg freshman logged 10 pars on the day.

Sophomore Quinn Greene (New Milford, Conn./Canterbury School) shot even-par on the front nine and finished right behind Hochman with a 79 to tie for 111th. Greene recorded nine pars and a birdie over his final 11 holes. His birdie came on the par-4, 458-yard No. 4 hole.

Senior Dane Sethre-Hofstad (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) notched a pair of birdies on par-5s and concluded his national debut tied for 123rd with an 80. He birdied the par-5, 565-yard 17th and the par-5, 516-yard sixth holes.

Rounding out Gettysburg's lineup was sophomore Daniel Rieger (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) with an 85 to tie for 182nd. Rieger posted seven of his 11 pars on the back nine of the course.

Gettysburg tees off on the shorter Keene Run Course Wednesday at 12:50 p.m. First round scores were more than a stroke and a half lower individually on Keene Run, which is 293 yards shorter than the Champion Trace Course. Following the conclusion of 36 holes of competition, the field will be narrowed to the top 18 teams. The Bullets are just four strokes shy of the projected cut heading into the second round.
