Duncan Proxmire (McLean, Va./Langley) and freshman
Oliver Pickering (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) accounted for four of Gettysburg College's nine victories as the Bullets dominated the swimming lanes in their home debut Saturday afternoon.
Gettysburg (3-0) cruised to victories over Messiah College (2-3) and Susquehanna University (2-3) in non-conference competitions.
Proxmire took care of business in the freestyle events, while Pickering owned both editions of the butterfly. The sophomore edged out teammate
Sam Nonemaker (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) by nine-hundredths of a second to take the top spot in the 200 freestyle. Proxmire's victory in the 500 free wasn't nearly as dramatic as he out-distanced the field by nearly 11 seconds with a mark of 4:49.57.
Pickering picked up two wins for the second week in a row. He earned the top spot in the 200 fly by 0.62 over classmate
CJ Hewitt (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) before completing the fly sweep with a time of 53.53 in the 100. The Bullets swept the top three spots in the 200 fly with Hewitt earning second (1:58.94) and sophomore
Jack Edelson (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Senior) taking third (2:01.70).
Junior
Josh Parker (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) posted the team's first individual victory by touching the wall first in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:23.11. Senior
Ernie Ribera (Burlingame, Calif./Burlingame) placed third in the event with 10:42.49.
Nonemaker earned his victory by 0.22 seconds in the 50 free, while junior
Adam Dias (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) led a strong contingent of Bullets in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.36. Yancey made it a clean sweep for Gettysburg in the breaststroke races by touching the wall in 2:17.53. Sophomore
Danny Petrillo (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) finished runner-up in both breaststroke events.
Sophomore
Aedan Collins (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) accounted for the team's remaining individual victory with the top time in the 100 free (48.15). Collins also placed second in the 100 back with a time of 55.40.
Gettysburg turned in the top times in both relay races. Collins, Yancey, Hewitt, and Nonemaker went for 1:37.15 in the 200 medley relay, while Yancey, Petrillo, Edelson, and Collins hit the wall in 3:14.78 in the 400 free relay to close the meet. The Bullets swam each of the final two events as exhibitions.
Gettysburg competes at McDaniel College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
