The Short Story: Host and undefeated Salisbury scored with just over two minutes remaining to lift the fourth-ranked Sea Gulls to a 2-1 win over the eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins Blue Jays. Â
Â
How it Happened
• Salisbury struck early, converting on its second penalty corner of the night. Camryn Dennis inserted the ball to Arielle Johnston, who slipped a shot through traffic and past sophomore
Kaitlin Hall just 2:30 into the game.
• Hopkins battled back and finally knotted the score at the 39:12-mark. Sophomore
Abby Birk played a short corner to classmate
Sarah Matyas, who lofted a high shot under the crossbar to even things up.
• The Sea Gull defense withstood a flurry of attacks by the Blue Jays and then was able to earn a corner late in the game. After inserting the corner, Dennis came into the circle and deflected a cross-cage pass from Meghan Jolikko inside the left post with 2:08 to play.
• The Blue Jays had one last good look, as they earned a corner with nine seconds to play. However, senior
Katie McErlean's blast from the top of the circle was deflected out of danger by the defense as the horn sounded.
