SPRINGFIELD, MA -- The Johns Hopkins wrestling team closed the pre-Thanksgiving portion of its 2019-20 schedule at the Doug Parker Invitational on Saturday. With just nine entries, the Blue Jays accumulated 15.5 points to tie for 14th in the 15-team tournament. The Coast Guard Academy rang up 141.5 points to easily claim the top spot in the final team standings. New England College (102), Western New England (91), Southern Maine (90.5) and Wesleyan (87) rounded out the top five.
Osborne, Wertheimer to Quarterfinals
Sophomore
Jared Osborne (149) and senior
Nathan Wertheimer (184) both advanced to the quarterfinals and posted 2-2 records on the day to lead the way for Johns Hopkins.
Osborne opened with a 4-2 win over Trinity's Nico Patch and advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-0 win over Connor Gagne of Bridgewater. He fell to the consolation bracket with a tight 6-4 loss to eventual third-place finisher Mike Vietri of Springfield and was eliminated with 3-1 setback to Centenary's Michael Foca.
Wertheimer opened his day with a pin of Springfield Tech's Stephano Mangy (4:41) and edged Plymouth State's Kevin Thomas, 5-2, in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, he fell to eventual third-place finisher Kenny Long of Centennary, 7-3, before withdrawaling.
Walnoha Wins Three
Freshman
Grant Walnoha picked up a team-best three wins on the day at 174. He scored two wins by decision and added a 16-0 technical fall of Western New England's Alex Hernandez before being eliminated by Davey Goodall (Western New England); Goodall would go on to finish fifth.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on December 6-7 when the Blue Jays travel to York (PA) to participate in the New Standard Corp Invitational.Â
