2016 Centennial Conference Baseball Preview

Preseason Coaches Poll | Record Book

Ryan Dolan, Dickinson

Dickinson (14-21-1 overall, 7-10-1 CC, 7th place)
Head Coach: Craig Hanson (Middlebury '03), 10th season, 142-179-2 (.443)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 846-1330-24 (.390) since 1886
Centennial Titles (0)
Playoff Appearances (1): 2004
Preseason Poll Projection: 7th

Key Position Players Returning: Ryan Dolan, Sr., CF, 1st team All-CC, 384-1-23, 24 SB; Rick Hopkins, Jr, C, 243-1-11;
Phil Werner, Sr, 1B, 283-1-19; Matt Primavera, 1B, IF, 267-1-15; Austin Sumners, Soph, OF, 253-0-9, 17 SB.
Key Pitchers Returning: Garrett Kurtz, Sr, RHP, 3-5, 3.86, 56.0 IP, 21 K; Matt Cowell, Sr, RHP, 0-2, 2.68, 37.0 IP, 21 K;
Cristian Acosta, Jr, RHP, 1-3, 6.08, 23.2 IP, 30 K.
Key Losses: Harley Moore, LHP, 2nd team All-CC, 2-2, 2.81, 51.1 IP, 58 K; Steven Haynes, SS, 308-3-25;
Mike DeVivo, OF, 342-1-7; Tyler Clausen-Wolf, RHP, 19.1 IP, 2 saves.

Outlook: The Red Devils finished seventh in the CC in runs scored and will look to improve upon that with the return of
Dolan and Werner. Dolan led the Red Devils in average, OPS and steals a year ago while Werner is second among returnees
in RBI. Sumners provides additional speed on the basepaths, while Primavera and Hopkins will be counted on for greater run
production. Kurtz and Cowell are veterans at the top of the rotation, while Acosta is a flame thrower out of the pen. Dickinson
may not quite be ready to join the Centennial elite but will cause problems around the Conference this spring.

Brett Poniros, Franklin & Marshall

Franklin & Marshall (28-13 overall, 13-5 CC, 2nd place, 2-2 in Centennial tournament)
Head Coach: Ryan Horning (St. Lawrence '04), 3rd season, 42-36 (.538)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 978-1183-24 (.453) since 1877
Centennial Titles (4): 1995-2005-06-13
Playoff Appearances (10): 2002-04-05-06-07-08-09-11-13-15
Preseason Poll Projection: 2nd

Key Position Players Returning: Dan Marano, Soph, DH, 1st team All-CC, 363-2-32; Luke Seib, Sr, 1B, 2nd team All-CC, 315-2-29;
David Iacobucci, Jr, LF, 2nd team All-CC, 319-2-24, 14 SB; Christopher Vincent, Jr, C; HM All-CC, 299-1-17;
Brett Poniros, Sr, SS, 3-9-1-16, 14 SB; Mike Smeriglio, Sr, RF, 330-1-25; Matt Mezansky, Sr, 3B, 266-1-13, 16 SB;
Casey Bulik, Jr, 2B, 234-0-6.
Key Pitchers Returning: Andrew Mascis, Soph, RHP, 1st team All-CC, 0.48 ERA, 9 saves, 18.2 IP, 6 BB, 14 K;
Mike Androconis, Soph, RHP, 5-2, 3.11, 55.0 IP, 10 BB, 36 K; Mack Glavin, Jr, RHP, 5-3, 3.40, 39.2 IP, 17 BB 22 K;
Eric Bateman, Jr, 2-0, 3.33, 27.0 IP, 7 BB, 17 K.
Key Losses: Alex Guerra, RHP, 2nd team All-CC, 6-2, 2.54 ERA, 60.1 IP, 36 K; Sean Cosgriff, 4-1, 4.34, 37.1 IP, 25 K;
Brian Erb, CF, 267-0-17, 14 SB.

Outlook: The Diplomats were one win away from their fifth Centennial title a year ago but came up short. The nucleus is
there to make another run at the crown and with different results. The offense returns All-CC selections Marano, Iacobucci
and Seib, along with Smeriglio who make up the teams' top four in slugging percentage from 2015. Mezansky and Poniros
are table-setters in front of the big bats. Androconis and Glavin were mainstays in the rotation last spring, while Bateman
looks to join the duo. Mascis was the Conference's top closer a year ago. Franklin & Marshall will be one of the teams to
beat in the Centennial this spring.

Connor Tom, Gettysburg

Gettysburg (20-15 overall, 9-9 CC, T-4th place)
Head Coach: John Campo (Delaware '77), 30th season, 540-490-11 (.524)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 1282-1095-28 (.539) since 1865
Centennial Titles (0)
Playoff Appearances (4): 2005-07-13-14
Preseason Poll Projection: 4th

Key Position Players Returning: Connor Tom, Jr, OF, 1st team All-CC, 399-1-22; Will Anderson, Jr, C, 2nd team All-CC, 297-2-18;
Steve Wright, Sr, SS, 320-0-14; Henry Klimowicz, Sr, 1B, 297-1-18; Shawn Moffitt, Sr, OF, 316-1-18.
Key Pitchers Returning: Rich Power, Jr, LHP, 2-2, 2.43, 40.2 IP, 10 BB, 39 K; Eric Brown, Jr, RHP, 4-1, 2.30, 43.0 IP, 5 BB, 26 K;
Brad DeMartino, Soph, LHP, 2-2, 2.96, 45.2 IP, 9 BB, 32 K; Luke Lawrence, Sr, RHP, 2-2, 4.10, 26.1 IP, 4 BB, 15 K.
Key Losses: Eric Hungerford, RHP, 1st team All-CC, 5-1, 1.37, 59.0 IP, 11-51; Mike Kielbasa, OF, 300-0-26;
Scott Zanghellini, SS, 276-0-18; Cory Karagjozi, 3B, 294-1-21.

Outlook: The Bullets could not repeat their success of 2014 last spring but still came within a game of the playoffs.
The Orange and Blue will be in the hunt once again behind the return of All-CC selections Tom and Anderson who were
1-2 on the team in slugging percentage. Wright led the team in runs a year ago, while Klimowicz and Moffitt are veteran
presences in the lineup. Gettysburg will miss Hungerford at the top of the rotation, but welcome back Brown, Power and
DeMartino who each posted under 3.00 ERAs in 19 combined starts. Lawrence is a veteran in the bullpen. Don't sleep
on the Bullets in 2016.

Ben Verducci, Haverford

Haverford (15-20 overall, 9-9, T-4th place, 1-2 Centennial tournament)
Head Coach: Dave Beccaria (Johns Hopkins '96), 16th season, 323-237-2 (.577)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 751-1032-15 since 1920 (.422)
Centennial Titles (2): 2012-14
Playoff Appearances (10): 2005-06-08-09-10-11-12-13-14-15
Preseason Poll Projection: 6th

Key Position Players Returning: Ben Verducci, Jr, 2B, 2nd team All-CC, 376-0-15; Spencer Sohmer, Soph, 1B, 310-1-19;
Zack Taylor, Sr, SS, 297-3-20; Nick Ott, Sr, C, 287-2-13; Yannick Villanueva, Jr, OF, 300-0-11;
Matt Goss, Fr, DH, 300-1-13; George Hatamiya, Sr, OF, 277-0-7.
Key Pitchers Returning: Justin Herring, Soph, 2-1, 4.54, 41.2 IP, 18 BB, 30K; Patrick O'Shea, Soph, 1-2, 3.27 ERA, 22.0 IP, 5 BB, 13 K.
Key Losses: Tommy Bergjans, RHP, 1st team All-CC, Centennial Pitcher of the Year, 5-3, 1.07, 67.1 IP, 14 BB, 111 K;
Casey Fox, 3B/P, 2nd team All-CC, 279-4-25, 2-5, 4.91, 47.2 IP, 17 BB, 28 K; Mike Schmandt, OF, 383-3-23.

Outlook: The Fords start the post-Bergjans era with a young squad that qualified for the Centennial tournament a year
ago. Herring will take over the mantle of staff ace, while O'Shea will be counted on for bigger things this spring. Three-fourths
of the infield is baack, headlined by Verducci. Taylor and Sohmer are the top returning RBI men, while Goss led the team in
runs. The Fords' running game is always a threat and will keep Haverford in the playoff hunt come May.

Conor Reynolds, Johns Hopkins

Johns Hopkins (30-13-1 overall, 13-4-1 CC, 1st place, 4-1 in Centennial tournament)
Head Coach: Bob Babb (Johns Hopkins '77), 37th season, 1042-383-13 (.729)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 1410-931-15 (.602) since 1887
Centennial Titles (13): 1994-97-98-2001-02-03-04-07-08-09-10-11-15
Playoff Appearances (14): 2002-03-04-05-06-07-08-09-10-11-12-13-14-15
Preseason Poll Projection: 1st

Key Position Players Returning: Conor Reynolds, Jr, SS, 2nd team All-CC, 388-4-31, 19 XBH, 21 SB; Mike Smith, Soph,
308-2-26; Thomas Mee, Jr, OF, 277-2-18; Daniel Albert, Jr, 1B, 361-4-26; Ryan Orgielewicz, Jr, C, 298-3-16; Mitch Weaver,
Sr, C, 312-4-16.
Key Pitchers Returning: Jake Enterlin, RHP, 1st team All-CC, 6-3, 2.07, 74.0 IP, 8 BB, 61 K; Carter Burns, Sr, RHP, 5-1,
2.25, 56.0 IP, 23 BB, 57 K, 9.16 K/9; Trevor Williams, Sr, RHP, 6-1, 2.91, 52.2 IP, 20 BB, 37 K; Nick Burns, Soph, LHP, 3-1,
1.78, 30.1 IP, 5 BB, 28 K; Ross Lazicky, Sr, RHP, 2-1, 5.24, 22.1 IP, 9 BB, 24 K.
Key Losses: Craig Hoelzer, 2B, 1st team All-CC, Centennial Player of the Year, 411-4-53; Justin Drechsel, RHP, 2nd team All-CC,
3-1, 1.91, 42.1 IP, 18 BB, 35 K; Colin McCarthy, OF, 2nd team All-CC, 365-4-33.

Outlook: The Blue Jays came back through the consolation bracket to capture their 13th Centennial title a year ago.
And the makings are there for back-to-back titles. The mound staff, which led the CC in ERA last spring may be the best
in the Conference. Enterlin is in the discussion for Conference Pitcher of the Year, while C. Burns, Williams and N. Burns
all posted under 3.00 ERAs in 22 combined starts. Lazicky is a hard-thrower out of the pen, while LHPs Alex Ross and
Andrew Zigmont cause lefties problems. Hop led the Conference in runs scored and batting average a year ago and welcome
back Reynolds as the table-setter. Weaver, Albert, Orgielewicz and Smith combined for 13 home runs and 84 RBI last season.
The Jays are the preseason favorite for a reason.

Marty Windisch, McDaniel

McDaniel (19-15 overall, 11-7 CC, 3rd place, 0-2 Centennial tournament)
Head Coach: Dave Seibert (McDaniel '78), 36th season, 471-495-4 (.488)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 634-621-7 (.505) since 1934
Centennial Titles (0)
Playoff Appearances (3): 2003-12-15
Preseason Poll Projection: 3rd

Key Position Players Returning: Cameron Bahr, Sr, C, 1st team All-CC, 369-1-27; Marty Windisch, Sr, 3B, 1st team All-CC, 409-1-40;
Kasey Nelson, Jr, DH, HM All-CC, 298-4-22; Antonio Rosanova, Soph, SS, 346-0-18, 14 SB; Sean Sivo, Sr, CF, 297-0-12, 21 SB;
Tyler Gilbert, Sr, 1B, 293-2-24; Nick Valori, OF, 349-1-29.
Key Pitchers Returning: Zach Kronick, Sr, RHP, 4-1, 3.28, 57.2 IP, 18 BB, 61 K, 9.52 K/9; Ben Van Put, Sr, 5-3, 6.79, 55.2 IP, 12 BB, 19 K;
Marty Windisch, Sr, RHP, 3-4, 3.71, 53.1 IP, 15 BB, 36 K.
Key Losses: David Pisauro, LHP, HM All-CC, 4-5, 4.76, 56.2 IP, 19 BB, 39 K; Brandon Hayward, OF, 355-1-27.

Outlook: The Green Terror returned to the playoffs after a two-year absence and look for even better things in 2016. The
strength returns on offense, where McDaniel finished second in the CC in average, runs and slugging last spring. Bahr and
Windisch are both first-team All-CC performers and combined for 24 XBH and 67 RBI in 2015. Nelson led the team in home
runs and is counted on more offensive production, along with Gilbert and Valori. Sivo is the table-setter at the top of the order.
Kronick is the ace of the staff along with Windisch. Van Put was 5-3 a year ago but needs to step up in the rotation. The Terror
could make its first-back-to-back trips to the tourney for the first time in history.

John Icaza, Muhlenberg

Muhlenberg (14-19 overall, 7-11 CC, T-8th place)
Head Coach: Tod Gross (Shenandoah '02), 4th season, 51-59-1 (.464)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 846-1147-17 (.425) since 1914
Centennial Titles (0)
Playoff Appearances (4): 2002-03-08-14
Preseason Poll Projection: 9th

Key Position Players Returning: John Icaza, Jr, OF, 296-3-19; Robbie Hopes, Jr, 1B, 267-0-5; Andrew Rava, Sr, 3B, 216-1-6.
Key Pitchers Returning: Troy Elias, Jr, RHP, 1-0, 3.82, 30.2 IP, 12 BB, 18 K; Timmy Pilrun, Soph, LHP, 1-2, 5.22, 29.1 IP, 10 BB, 27 K.
Key Losses: Phillip Balseca, RHP, HM All-CC, 1-2, 5 saves, 11.2 IP, 12 K; David Anderson, 2-4, 4.23, 44.2 IP, 9 BB, 27 K;
Nick Kennedy, 1B, 296-0-15; Michael Giordano, 2B, 273-0-13; Brett Rosen, C, 312-1-13; Jimmy Cody, OF, 314-4-27;
Nick Plinio, OF, 265-7-17; Kurt Johnson, SS, 298-1-11.

Outlook: The Mules will put a lot of newcomers on the field this spring. Icaza, the 2014 CC Rookie of the Year, is the top
offensive threat as the team's returning leader in average, runs, homers, RBI and steals. Rava and Hopes are expected to
contribute while sophs Eric Reitmeyer and Taylor Vasquez look to break into the starting lineup. Elias and Pilrun will make
up the backbone of the rotation. Muhlenberg may not be ready for "prime time," but will use the experience gained this
spring toward future success.

Wesley Fishburn, Swarthmore

Swarthmore (18-17 overall, 4-14 CC, 10th place)
Head Coach: Matt Midkiff (Wilkes '04), 4th season at Swarthmore (58-50, .537), 8th as head coach
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 549-945-8 (.368)
Centennial Titles (0)
Playoff Appearances (1): 2010
Preseason Poll Projection: 10th

Key Position Players Returning: Wesley Fishburn, Jr, SS, 1st team All-CC, 399-2-17, 20 SB; Cal Barnett-Mayotte, Soph, 2B, 343-0-13;
Ryan Burnett, Jr, CF, 323-0-20; Roy Walker, Sr, OF, 279-0-13; David Wolfson, Sr, 3B, 311-0-5; Jaron Shrock, Soph, C, 283-0-6.
Key Pitchers Returning: Nathan Booth, Sr, RHP, 2-2, 6 saves, 36.0 IP, 13 BB, 36 K, 9.00 K/9; Griffin Kammerer, Soph, RHP, 1-0,
2.57, 14.0 IP, 7 BB, 15 K; Aidan Miller, Jr, RHP, 3-2, 2.61, 38.0 IP, 22 BB, 35 K; Max Kassan, Soph, LHP, 2-1, 3.25, 27.2 IP,
10 BB, 26 K; Brian Gibbs, Jr, LHP, 3-3, 3.76, 40.2 IP, 17 BB, 49 K, 10.84 K/9.
Key Losses: Scoop Ruxin, DH, 2nd team All-CC, 308-0-19; John Lim, C, 366-0-15.

Outlook: The Garnet struggled in Conference but had some success outside a year ago. Swat would like to improve on the
former and retain the latter in 2016. Fishburn is the top offensive performer after leading the team in hits, XBH, homers,
RBI and steals last spring. Barnett-Mayotte, Burnett and Schrock make the Garnet strong up the middle. Improvement is
needed from the rotation that finished eighth in ERA and ninth in walks last season. Miller and Gibbs are the top returing
starters, while Kammerer and Kassan are the bridges to Booth in the ninth. Swarthmore could surprise some folks in 2016.

Timo Muro, Ursinus

Ursinus (18-15 overall, 7-11 CC, T-8th place)
Head Coach: Stan Exeter (Lafayette '92), 4th season at Ursinus (42-59, .416), 20th overall
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2014 Statistics
All-Time Record: 578-588-15 (.496) since 1967
Centennial Titles (3): 1996-99-2000
Playoff Appearances (6): 2002-03-04-07-09-11
Preseason Poll Projection: 5th

Key Position Players Returning: Chris Jablonski, Sr, 1B, 1st team All-CC, 318-8-25, 22 XBH; Timo Muro, Jr, OF, 2nd team All-CC,
336-1-16, 18 XBH; Vincent Terry, Jr, C, 305-0-7; Austin Feuerman, Jr, 1B, 295-2-12; Jose Colon, Jr, OF, 263-0-7; Travis Kozak,
Soph, OF, 292-0-11; CJ Diana, Sr, 2B, 250-0-11.
Key Pitchers Returning: Sean Pisik, Sr, RHP, 2nd team All-CC, 5-1, 2.28, 47.1 IP, 5 BB, 47 K; Seth Regensburg, Jr, LHP, 3-3, 5.36,
40.1 IP, 16 BB, 34 K; Connor Moriarty, Jr, RHP, 3-1, 3.00, 27.0 IP, 20 BB, 15 K; Vince Piccioni, Sr, RHP, 3-3, 5.02, 37.2 IP, 24 BB,
21 K.
Key Losses: Vince Rondolone, 316-0-13; Alex Manacher, 2-2, 3.57, 35.1 IP, 9 BB, 24 K.

Outlook: The Bears were 11-4 outside of the Centennial but just 7-11 inside and missed the Conference playoffs. Optimism
abounds in Collegeville with the return of most of that 2015 squad, including All-CC selections Jablonski and Muro. Feuerman
should provide some pop while more is counted on from Terry, Colon and Kozak. Pisik blossomed into one of the Conference's
aces last spring and anchors the rotation along with Piccioni, Regensburg and Moriarty. Ursinus has not been to the Centennial
playoffs since 2011. That could change this spring.

Dan Jarrell, Washington College

Washington College (18-15 overall, 9-9 CC, T-4th place)
Head Coach: Matt Reynolds (Massachusetts '05), 2nd season (18-15, .545)
Team Page | Roster | Schedule | 2015 Statistics
All-Time Record: 1121-1023-24 (.523) since 1871
Centennial Titles (0)
Playoff Appearances (2): 2010-12
Preseason Poll Projection: 8th

Key Position Players Returning: Bryan Baquer, Sr, OF, 1st team All-CC, 369-1-12; Evan Hirschbaum, Jr, 1B, 300-0-13;
Joe Lozupone, Soph, SS, 319-1-16; Garrett Richardello, Sr, 260-0-13; Logan Dubbe, Jr, DH, 234-2-13; Ryan Donnelly, Soph,
OF, 229-2-17.
Key Pitchers Returning: Dan Jarrell, Sr, LHP, 4-3, 3.22, 50.1 IP, 8 BB, 18 K; Brian Kasey, Soph, 4-0, 1.29, 28.0 IP, 12 BB,
14 K; John Beck, Sr, 0-1, 1.50, 24.0 IP, 4 BB, 6 K; P.J. Mikulus, Soph, 2-0, 2.19, 24.2 IP, 4 BB, 25 K; Billy Griffin, Jr, 2-4, 4.12,
39.1 IP, 10 BB, 35 K; Logan Dubbe, Sr, RHP, 0-1, 0.00, 4 saves.
Key Losses: Brian Alexa, 2B, 303-0-13.

Outlook: The Shoremen struggled down the stretch last season, dropping nine of their last 10 games to miss out on the
Centennial playoffs. A second consecutive winning season for the first time since 2000-02 and a trip to the postseason rest on
an improved offense. Washington College was last in the CC in runs scored a year ago, but welcome back All-CC pick Baquer at
the top of the order. Donnelly and Lozupone had strong rookie campaigns, while Hirschbaum will be counted on for more
production in 2016. The pitching staff dropped its ERA from 5.86 to 3.35 a year ago. Jarrell is a crafty lefty at the top of the
rotation, while Casey and Mikulus had promising first seasons. Dubbe is the incumbent at closer. The Shoremen have the
makings of a playoff team if the offense can show the improvement that the pitching staff did last season.
