2021 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Teams

Four Centennial Conference baseball players have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region team.

Franklin & Marshall starting pitcher Kyle Roche earned first team accolades, Johns Hopkins starting pitcher Peter Schaefer and Washington College outfielder Chris Baker landed on the second team, and Hopkins starting pitcher Kieran Collins nabbed third team honors. 

Roche won all seven starts he made this spring on his way to Centennial Conference Pitcher of the Year accolades. In addition to his conference-leading win total, Roche led the CC in starter's ERA (1.00) and strikeouts (54) during the conference-only schedule. Opponents hit just .131 against Roche as he struck out an average of 10.8 batters every nine innings.

Roche's numbers were not only the best in the CC, but were also among the national leaders in all of Division III. The F&M righty led all Division III players with a 0.60 WHIP. Roche allowed just four hits per nine innings to rank fourth in the nation while his 7.71 strikeout/walk ratio was the 22nd-best mark nationally. Roche's 1.00 ERA was the ninth-best mark in DIII as he ranked sixth among starting pitchers.

Baker led the Shoremen in home runs (5), RBIs (29), runs (25), triples (3), walks (19), stolen bases (14) and slugging (.649) and tied for first on the team in hits (34), while hitting .362 this spring. Baker currently leads the CC in home runs, RBI, runs, triples, walks and stolen bases and is tied for tops in the conference in hits.

Schaefer and Collins ate the brunt of the innings for Johns Hopkins in 2021.A Knoxville, TN native, Schaefer has started nine of 19 games for the Blue Jays in 2021. The sophomore is currently 5-2 with a 1.58 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 51.1 innings pitched this season. With a chance to add to his total in Cedar Rapids, Schaefer is currently 15^th in JHU single-season history with his 73 punchouts. Schaefer has struck out eight or more in five of his nine starts, including a career-high 15 vs. Muhlenberg on May 1^st.
 
His rotation mate, Collins, has pitched in nine contests, making six starts. The Floridian is 5-1 with a 2.17 ERA, striking out 42 in 45.2 innings pitched. Collins struck out at least six batters in five different outings, including eight strikeouts in his outstanding seven-inning performance out of the bullpen on Monday afternoon.
