LANCASTER, Pa. -- Swarthmore's Luke Mutz and Washington College's Joe Morrissey earned the top awards to highlight the 2022 All-Centennial Baseball Team. McDaniel's Shane Daly and Franklin & Marshall's Spencer Berson and Ryan Horning also collected major awards.
Mutz was named Player of the Year. The senior third baseman led the CC in batting average (.442) and hits (68), ranked second in runs scored (50), triples (6), and on-base percentage (.506), and fourth in total bases (95). Mutz becomes the first Swarthmore player to receive CC Player of the Year honors.
Morrisey secured Pitcher of the Year laurels after 7-2 campaign on the mound with a 2.35 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 69 innings pitched. Morrissey leads the conference in wins and strikeouts and ranks second in innings pitched and ERA. The freshman righthander is the second Shoremen to secure the award and the first since Keith Whiteford in 1994, the first year of Centennial baseball.
Daly, a freshman outfielder for McDaniel, was tabbed as Rookie of the Year. Daly leads the CC in runs scored (58), triples (11), and total bases (116), and ranks near the top in hits (67, 2nd), slugging (.648, 6th), stolen bases (12, 7th), batting average (.374, 8th), and doubles (12, 9th).
Berson, an outfielder for F&M, was named Gold Glove of the Year as the conference's top defensive player. Berson posted a 1.000 field percentage with 106 putouts and two assists in his 39 games for the Diplomats. Berson is the second F&M player to receive the Gold Glove award, joining former standout J.J. Freeman in that category.
Horning was selected as Coach of the Year for the third straight season and fourth time overall after leading the Diplomats to a 14-4 CC record and second-place finish in the regular season standings. He is the only coach to have won the award four times.
Seven players repeated as All-Centennial selections. Johns Hopkins' catcher A.J. King earned back-to-back first team accolades, while Dickinson's Beau Dana and Andrew Mazzone, F&M's Jakob Hoffman, McDaniel's Joey Hubinger, and Washington College's Chris Baker and Max Ruvo also became multi-time all-conference performers.
Johns Hopkins has the most first-team All-Centennial selections (92) since 1994. Franklin & Marshall (43) and Ursinus (42) and second and third in the conference, respectively, while Gettysburg (31), Haverford (28), Washington College (24), Muhlenberg (18), Dickinson (18), McDaniel (16) and Swarthmore (16) follow.
