ROCHESTER, NY – In a game that began  at 6:35pm on Saturday night and ended after a 12 hour weather delay, Swarthmore College Baseball fell in a battle to Middlebury College 8-4, in the NCAA Regionals.

Paul Cooke and Michael Sepe powered the offense as they each rocketed home runs to right field, while Luke Mutz and Matthew Silvestre added hits for the Garnet. Mutz added a hit and a walk in the game as he extended his on-base streak to 28 games, while Austin Burgess saw his on base come to a halt at 31 games.

Jeremy Jensen took the mound in the top of the seventh inning for the Garnet. He got one out before the game went into a weather delay at 8:30 PM on Saturday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the visitors half of inning, Beau Root got a lead-off single for Middlebury. Two pitches later, Root was thrown out by Andrew Olsen trying to steal second. Zach Camp, who allowed three runs and five hits over three innings of work, got the next two batters to ground out to the end the inning.

- Swarthmore lit up the scoreboard first as Matthew Silvestre scored on a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the second inning.

- Middlebury tied the game in the top of the third with a single to center field by Alec Ritch, and took a 3-1 lead with a two run triple by John Collins to center field. The Garnet wasted no time as the long ball continue returned with a solo shot to right field by Cooke. After a Silvestre walk, Sepe roped his seventh home run of the season to give the Garnet a 4-3 edge. In a regional where home runs have become a plenty, the homers by Cooke and Sepe were the first two to right field.

- The Panthers took a 5-4 lead on an RBI single down the right field line by Ritch. Casey Jordan stepped up big time in the top of the sixth as he hurled a perfect inning. The righty struck out the first two batters, and got the final batter to ground out. In the home half of the sixth, Kirk Terada-Herzer crushed a ball to deep center field but was robbed as Root reached over the fence to rob the would be solo home run.

- Play was halted in the top of seventh inning with a runner on first and one out as the Garnet and Panthers went into an overnight weather day. With play resuming at 9:15 in the morning, Jensen got the first batter to strikeout on four pitches, and a fly out to center field. The righty sat the Panthers down in order in the top of the eighth.

-  Sepe added a two out double down the right field line in the bottom of the eighth, which was followed by a walk to Nate Jbara. Middlebury scored three runs in the top of the ninth behind a pair of home runs.

-  In the bottom of the ninth inning, Max Roffwarg was hit by a pitch and Mutz walked on four pitches as the Garnet threatened with one out. Middlebury closer Paul Goldstein got out of the jam as Burgess popped out to shortstop, and Cooke grounded out to second.
