Kyle Roche, Franklin & Marshall, Pitcher of the Year

Kyle Roche, Franklin & Marshall, Pitcher of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall's J.J. Freeman and Kyle Roche received top honors to lead the 2021 All-Centennial Baseball team. Dickinson's Ethan Hamilton, Johns Hopkins' Dai Dai Otaka and F&M head coach Ryan Horning also secured major awards.

Freeman was named Player of the Year and Co-Gold Glove of the Year after ranking near the top of the conference in nearly all statistical categories this spring. The senior shortstop ranked second in the CC in batting average (.407), on-base percentage (.515), slugging (.685), and RBIs (20). He also ranked top-five in stolen bases (8), doubles (5), triples (2), runs scored (16), hits (22), and tied for sixth in home runs (2). At shortstop, he posted a .931 fielding percentage. Freeman becomes the first player in CC history to win both Player of the Year and Gold Glove of the Year in the same season, and the fourth Diplomat to secure POTY honors.

Roche claimed Pitcher of the Year accolades after going 7-0 on the mound with a 1.00 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 45.0 innings pitched. The junior righthander led the conference in wins and ranked second in innings pitched, ERA, and strikeouts. It marks the second straight season an F&M pitcher claimed the conference's top pitching award and sixth time overall.

Hamilton, a freshman righthanded pitcher for the Red Devils, was tabbed as Rookie of the Year. In six starts and 28.1 innings on the mound, Hamilton posted a 3-1 record with 26 strikeouts and a 2.86 ERA, which ranked sixth in the conference. He is the first Dickinson player to win Rookie of the Year laurels in the eight-year history of the award.

Otaka, a graduate student shortstop for JHU, was selected as Co-Gold Glove of the Year alongside F&M's Freeman. He registered a .932 fielding percentage with eight double plays across 14 games this spring. He is the first Blue Jay to win the award since its inception in 2015. Otaka was also a second-team pick at shortstop.

Horning was selected as Coach of the Year for the second straight season and third time overall after leading the Diplomats to a 10-4 CC record and second-place finish in the regular season standings. He is the only coach to have won the award three times.

Freeman, Ursinus catcher Tom Jacobs, and Dickinson outfielder Alex Cohen were each repeat all-star selections.

Johns Hopkins has the most first-team All-Centennial selections (91) since 1994.  Franklin & Marshall and Ursinus are tied for second in the conference with 40 first-teamers each, while Gettysburg (31), Haverford (28), Washington College (22), Muhlenberg (18), Dickinson (18), McDaniel (15) and Swarthmore (12) follow.
