D3football.com All-Region 2 Team
The Centennial Conference earned 24 spots on the D3football.com 2021 All-Region 2 Team, headlined by Muhlenberg quarterback Michael Hnatkowsky and Johns Hopkins defensive end Luke Schuermann.
Johns Hopkins led all CC teams with nine selections, followed by Muhlenberg (7), Susquehanna (7), and Ursinus (1). Seven players receive first-team recognition, eight landed on the second team, and nine collected third-team nods.
Hnatkowsky is the first Muhlenberg player ever to be named regional offensive player of the year. The two-time Centennial Conference offensive player of the year set school records for passing yards (3876) and passing touchdowns (47) in a season, ranking in the top five in Division III in both categories. He completed 68.9 percent of his passes and threw only 11 interceptions in 460 attempts, with no picks in 133 attempts in three postseason games. Hnatkowsky finished his career as the Muhlenberg and CC all-time leader in passing yards (12,708), passing touchdowns (144) and completions (985). His 144 touchdowns rank fifth in Division III history, and he also set a school record for career efficiency rating (159.98).
Schuermann added to his already impressive haul of honors with his selection as the Region 2 Defensive Player of the Year while also grabbing First Team All-Region honors. Among the 13 players named Offensive or Defensive Player of the Year in the six regions (one region had co-DPOY), Schuermann was the only sophomore and one of just three non-seniors. He posted 46 tackles in his first season of college football after the 2020 season was canceled (COVID). He counted 20.5 tackles for losses, 11 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup to his credit was well. He is the first Johns Hopkins player to be named a D3football.com Offensive or Defensive Player of the Year.
Joining Hnatkowsky and Scheurmann on the first team were Muhlenberg wideout Michael Feaster and linebacker Spencer Kirin, JHU tackle JR Woods and safety Macauley Kilbane, and Susquehanna tight end Michael Lefever.
Second-teamers from the CC included JHU running back Danny Wolf, wide receivers Harrison Wellmann and Quinn Revere, Susquehanna center Dalton Simpson and kicker Elijah Hoffman, and Muhlenberg cornerback John Washington and James McGettigan on special teams.
Third team honorees were JHU quarterback Ryan Stevens, Wellmann as a kick returnner, and Spencer Uggla on special teams, Susquehanna tackle Cole Spencer, defensive tackle Sal Gunari, and cornerback Aaron Beverly, Muhlenberg tackle Zach Greenberg and defensive end Quentin Ogren, and Ursinus running back Samuel Ragland.
