    Caitlin Williams, a 2008 graduate of Duke University, has been named head field hockey coach at Dickinson. She has served as an assistant coach at her alma mater for the past three seasons.
  • Benner Takes Over at Ursinus

    As the calendar year recently turned over from 2010 to 2011, another silent transition has occurred to one of the historic field hockey programs in the country. Janelle Benner has taken over as head field hockey coach, replacing Laura Moliken who stepped aside in November to focus on her athletic director duties.

    Ursinus senior Lindsey Doutt heads a list of four Centennial Conference players who received recognition as the 2010 NFHCA Division III All-America team was released on Monday.
  • Ursinus Falls in Final Four

    For close to 38 minutes, Ursinus held Messiah scoreless in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey semifinal Saturday afternoon. The Bears defensive unit held strong, but, Messiah scored its first goal 37:56 in as the Falcons advanced to the championship game for the second straight season with a 4-0 blanking of Ursinus.

    Ursinus will make its third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Final Four Saturday in Newport News, Va. The Bears will take on Messiah in one semifinal, while Skidmore and Bowdoin will meet in the nightcap.

    For the third straight season, the Ursinus College field hockey team will be one of the four teams left in the NCAA tournament as the Bears (20-1) defeated Middlebury (13-5) 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in the NCAA quarterfinals.

    Third-ranked Ursinus scored six unanswered goals as the Bears (19-1) advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals with a 7-2 win over Juniata (18-5) on Saturday in field hockey play. The Bears will host Middlebury, who defeated NESCAC rival Tufts 3-2 in the other game on the day.

    Ursinus, who won its seventh straight Centennial championship, placed three players on the first team as the 2010 All-Conference field hockey team was released today. Lindsey Doutt, Alyssa Thren and Megan Yoder were all named to the first unit for a second straight season. Haverford senior forward Alex Waleko was a unanimous first-team selection and became the first Ford player to earn Centennial Player of the Year honors.

    Sophomore midfielder Kristen Wille (Stevensville, MD / Kent Island) scored the game-winning goal with 3:58 left in the first overtime to give visiting Washington College a 2-1 overtime win over host Gettysburg in the Centennial Conference Field Hockey Tournament first round game this afternoon on Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. Junior defender Brittany Palasik (Severna Park, MD / Archbishop Spalding) had two defensive saves in the game for the Shorewomen to break the Centennial Conference career record and unofficial NCAA Division III record.

    "Third-ranked Ursinus got two goals each from senior forward Jennifer Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa. / Hazleton Area) and junior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa. / Upper Perkiomen) won their 16th straight game with a 4-0 win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Ursinus (16-1, 10-0 Centennial) clinched the top seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament and will host the semifinals and finals next weekend in Collegeville."

    "Defender Alyssa Heimbach turned in a Senior Day to remember, posting a career-high five points on two goals and one assist as the Gettysburg College field hockey team defeated Muhlenberg College 4-0 in Centennial Conference action Friday at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. With the win, the Bullets (9-8, 7-3 CC) clinched fourth place in the conference standings and will host a first-round playoff game on Wednesday."

    "Not even the rain could slow down the Haverford College field hockey team Wednesday afternoon as the Fords outscored host Swarthmore College, 8-1, in a Centennial Conference win that clinched the third place spot in the league standings. Sophomore Mary Hobbs' first four-goal game propelled the Fords (12-4, 7-2 CC) to their fifth consecutive triumph over Swarthmore (6-11, 3-6)."

    Ursinus forward Alyssa Thren and Gettysburg goalkeeper Megan Feeg were named the Conference's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for the week ending October 23. Thren (pictured) scored four goals and assisted on two others in a 2-0 week. She became the Conference's all-time leader in goals (74). Feeg had an 88.9 save percentage in a 2-0 week, registering a shutout against McDaniel and a key win at Swarthmore.

    The first NCAA South Region ranking was released on Wednesday and to no one's surprise, Ursinus sits alone in the top spot. The Bears are the lone Centennial team in the top five which also has Salisbury, Lynchburg, Chrisitopher Newport and St. Mary's.
  • Morgan-Trostle Lifts Fords to OT Win

    "It took seventy minutes of regulation and nearly the full 15 of the overtime period for the field hockey teams from Haverford College and Washington College to decide a winner, but the Fords got a score from Juliana Morgan-Trostle with five seconds remaining to pull out a 3-2 overtime victory in Centennial Conference action Wednesday night. Morgan-Trostle, who scored all of Haverford's goals, tipped in a blast from Bridget Gibbons that had first been tipped by a Washington defender, beating the buzzer with five seconds remaining in the overtime period."

    "Senior Nicole Meredyth scored one goal and handed out one assist as the Gettysburg College field hockey team picked up a key 3-0 Centennial Conference victory over McDaniel College Tuesday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium. Gettysburg (6-8, 4-3 CC) entered the game tied with McDaniel (5-8, 3-4 CC) for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Centennial Conference. The Bullets now sit in sole possession of fifth place in the conference standings, a half game in front of idle Swarthmore College (3-3)."

    Johns Hopkins' Carly Bianco and Ursinus goalkeeper LauraLee Lightwood-Mater were named the Conference's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for the week ending October 16. Bianco scored both goals in the overtime win against F&M and a goal and an assist in the triumph vs. Muhlenberg. Lightwood-Mater made 13 saves in a 2-0 week, including six in the shutout win of #17 William Smith.

    "The Johns Hopkins field hockey team twice rallied from one-goal deficits in the first half before scoring the go-ahead goal with 13:55 left in the game to upset seventh-ranked Christopher Newport, 3-2, on Monday night at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays pick up their eighth win in their last nine games to improve to 9-5 overall. The Captains see their 10-game win streak snapped as they fall to 12-2 on the season."
