BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins senior Abby Birk has been named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Region V Player of the Year. She is the second player in program history to earn Regional Player of the Year honors, joining Grace Hillman (2018).

Birk led Johns Hopkins to a 22-1 record, its third straight Centennial Conference Tournament title and a national runner-up finish. It was the Blue Jays' third straight appearance in the NCAA Final Four and their first in the national title game. Birk was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team this season.

A three-time All-Centennial Conference and all-region selection, Birk earned Third Team All-America honors from the NFHCA and second team from SynapseSports.com in 2019. She ranked second on the team in goals (11), assists (10) and points (32). She also ranked third in Centennial Conference in points and assists and was fifth in goals.

Birk is the program's all-time assist leader with 34 helpers in just 67 career games. She is tied for fourth in school history with 92 career points and is tied for eighth with 29 career goals.
