McDaniel's Bauman, Haverford's Frost Named Scholar-Athletes of the Year

LANCASTER, Pa. -- McDaniel senior volleyball player Taylor Bauman and Haverford senior men's lacrosse player Ben Frost are the recipients of the 2019 Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. 

The Centennial recognizes a Scholar-Athlete of the Year in each of its 24 championship sports to a junior or senior member of the All-Conference team with the highest cumulative grade point average. The overall Scholar-Athletes of the Year are presented to the student with the highest GPA among the 12 men and 12 women's winners.

Bauman, a libero for the Green Terror, becomes the first repeat winner of the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in its four-year history. A four-time All-Centennial selection, she helped lead McDaniel to a 23-9 overall record last fall and appearances in the Conference Championship match and the ECAC Tournament finals. She completed her career with a program-record 1,975 career digs. She led the CC in total digs (532) and ranked fifth in digs per set (4.75) in 2018.

Off the court, the biology major was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Volleyball First Team this past fall, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Bauman also collected CC Academic Honor Roll recognition each of the last three years and earned the conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in volleyball as both a junior and senior, making her one of 11 student-athletes in conference history to achieve that feat. The captain has been named to the Dean's List in each of the previous six semesters and was tabbed to the McDaniel Green and Gold Honor Roll the last two years. In the College's Honors program, she is a member of Alpha Lamba Delta, Tri-Beta and Phi Beta Kappa.

Frost, a midfielder for the Fords, garnered All-Centennial Conference recognition for the second-straight season. Frost was also an honorable mention recipient a year ago and came back in 2019 with career highs in goals (24), assists (8), points (32), shots (98), and shots on goal (54) from his spot in the midfield. Frost started all 15 games during the regular season for Haverford. Always a threat on man-up chances, each of his three man-up tallies came in Centennial Conference play to rank sixth among his conference peers. He scored 14 of his 24 goals during conference play and added half of his assists during that same time.

Away from the field, the chemistry major was recently named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team for the second-straight year. Additionally, Frost is one of 11 student-athletes in conference history to receive their sports' Scholar-Athlete of the Year award twice. At Haverford, he was also recognized as the William W. Ambler '45 Award recipient for having the highest cumulative grade point average among all Haverford senior student-athletes. He is a three-time honoree on the CC Academic Honor Roll.
