Centennial Conference Athletes of the Week - Jan. 17-23

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Winter sport competition continues to ramp up around the Centennial Conference as the end of January approaches. This week, weekly awards have been announced in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's indoor track & field, and wrestling. 

Award winners for this week include Conner Delaney and Diarra Oden of Johns Hopkins men's and women's basketball, Sam Nonemaker of Gettysburg men's swimming, Molly Stevens of Ursinus women's swimming, Malcolm Hunt of Ursinus wrestling, Matthew Kleiman of Johns Hopkins men's track & field, Brody Myers of Ursinus men's track & field, and Ellan Baran and Victoria Kadiri of Johns Hopkins women's track & field.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
  
Player of the Week
Conner Delaney, Gr., G, Johns Hopkins
Garnet Valley, Pa. | Episcopal Academy 
Delaney averaged 19.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 4.0 three-pointers and 1.5 steals per game to lead Hopkins to a pair of double-digit wins last week. He scored 24 points and handed out five assists to go with a rebound and a steal in a 17-point win at Franklin & Marshall. Delaney followed that with 15 points, three rebounds, eight assists and two steals in a 20-point win over Muhlenberg. For the week, he shot 50% from the floor, 57.1% from three and 81.8% from the free throw line. 
 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
 
Player of the Week
Diarra Oden, Sr., G, Johns Hopkins
Atlanta, Ga. | Marist School
Oden averaged 21.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.3 assists per game in a 3-0 week for JHU, tallying at least 16 points in all three games. Oden started things off with 22 points in an 11-point win over Swarthmore, pulling down five rebounds in the contest as well. The senior scored a season-high 25 points and nabbed five steals in a hard-fought road win at Franklin & Marshall on Thursday, leading the Jays to a nine-point win after trailing at halftime. Finally, in a 45-point win over Muhlenberg, Oden scored 16 points in just 20 minutes, knocking down three threes. Oden crossed the 900-point threshold for her career in the win over the Mules.
 

MEN'S SWIMMING

Athlete of the Week
Sam Nonemaker, Sr., Gettysburg
Shippensburg, Pa. | Shippensburg
Nonemaker had a hand in seven victories over duals last week. In a 78-16 win at McDaniel, the senior posted wins in the 200 freestyle (1:47.93) and 100 breaststroke (59.54), while helping the 200 medley relay claim a victory. Nonemaker added four more wins in a non-conference win over Mary Washington. He scored a hat trick with individual wins in the 100 breaststroke (59.33), 100 freestyle (47.85), and 200 IM (1:58.26) and swam the second leg of the winning 400 medley relay (3:31.64).

WOMEN'S SWIMMING
 
Athlete of the Week
Molly Stevens, Fr., Ursinus
Morgantown, Pa. | Twin Valley
Stevens collected three wins in the Bears 146-115 dual meet win over Washington College on Saturday afternoon. She earned two individual wins in the meet in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Her time of 2:12.57 in the 200 back was a collegiate best and was the fastest time in the Centennial for the weekend for that event. Stevens posted a time of 1:01.80 to win the 100 backstroke. She capped her day by leading off the Bears 400 medley relay that placed first with a time of 4:07.79. 
 

WRESTLING
 
Athlete of the Week
Malcolm Hunt, Sr., HWT, Ursinus
Philadelphia, Pa. | Roman Catholic
Returning to the mat for the first time since suffering an injury on Nov. 13, Hunt went 3-0 with three pins at the quad meet with Gettysburg, McDaniel, and Washington and Lee. In his first match against Gettysburg, he only needed 25 seconds to collect the pin fall. In his second match of the day against McDaniel, he exited the mat with another first period pin. With Ursinus trailing 20-15 in his final match and Washington and Lee, Hunt recorded his third pin of the day to give the Bears a dramatic 21-20 victory over the defending Centennial Conference champions. 
 

Men's Indoor Track & Field
Track Athlete of the Week
Matthew Kleiman, Jr., Johns Hopkins
Concord, Mass. | Concord Carlisle 
Kleiman broke the JHU program record in the mile with a time of 4:09.45 at the NYC Gotham Cup on Saturday afternoon. The junior broke the eight-year-old record by nearly three full seconds. Kleiman's time is the tops in the Centennial and ranks him sixth in Division III this season.
 
Men's Indoor Track & Field
Field Athlete of the Week
Brody Myers, Fr., Ursinus
Camp Hill, Pa. | Camp Hill 
Myers won the pole vault at the Collegeville Classic on Saturday, taking home his second first-place in the indoor season. He earned gold with a mark of 4.42 meters, just shy of his season-best mark (4.44m) that ranks atop the Centennial and 35th nationally. 
 

Women's Indoor Track & Field
Track Athlete of the Week
Ella Baran, Sr., Johns Hopkins
Plymouth, Minn. | Houston
Baran finished the mile in 4:51.03 at the Gotham Cup on Saturday, posting the top time in the Centennial and third-fastest time in Division III this season. Her time was also just two seconds shy of the JHU program record. 
 
Women's Indoor Track & Field
Field Athlete of the Week
Victoria Kadiri, So., Johns Hopkins
Lynn, Mass. | Phillips Academy
Kadiri won the long jump at the Gotham Cup with a 5.51m mark to place in the top-10 nationally, joining teammate Annie Gutierrez. Kadiri also set the JHU program record in the 60m with a time of 7.81 which leads the conference and is eighth nationally.
