Top Play of the Year Challenge Moves on to Quarterfinals

LANCASTER, Pa. -- The 2021-22 Centennial Conference Top Play of the Year Challenge moves on to the quarterfinal round after voting on the Centennial Twitter page - @CentennialConf - closed on Sunday. The quarterfinal round will take place from Monday, June 27 through Saturday, July 2.

One quarterfinal matchup will be released each day from Monday, June 27 through Thursday, June 30, with a 48-hour voting period for each play.

In the round of 32, eight plays advanced to the quarterfinals by receiving the highest number of votes in their respective four-team pods. Sarah Karmazyn walk-off home run to win CC championship for Muhlenberg softball advanced through Pod 1 with 47.4% of the vote. Swarthmore women's basketball's halfcourt save and three-pointer to beat the clock secured 41.2% of the vote in Pod 2, setting up a quarterfinal matchup between the two plays in the upper left part of the bracket.

On the bottom left side of the bracket, it's an all-McDaniel quarterfinal as Katherine Carstensen's save in the CC women's soccer championship game won Pod 4 with 52.9% of the vote and Barry Amos' sideline interception received 49.7% of the vote in Pod 3 for the Green Terror football team.

On the other side of the bracket, Ursinus' Sophie Lear's performance at the CC swimming championship advanced with 40.7% of the vote in Pod 5. Lear will take on the Pod 6 winner - Kayla Robinson's drive to the basket and put-back layup for Haverford women's basketball (50.5% of the vote) - in the quarterfinals.

The final two plays to reach the round of eight were Reilly Morgan's behind-the-back goal (Ursinus women's lacrosse) and Spencer Kirin's punt block for a TD (Muhlenberg football). Morgan (59% of the vote in Pod 7) and Kirin (60.6% of the vote in Pod 8) ran away with the votes in their respective pods.

Once the quarterfinal matchups are decided, the semifinal round will take place from July 5 through July 7, with the top two plays set to face off between July 8 and July 11. The Top Play of the Year winner will be announced on July 12.

Winners of each round will be announced on the @CentennialConf Twitter page following the conclusion of voting for each round.

This marks the second annual CC Top Play of the Year Challenge. Plays were chosen from the weekly #CCTopPlays highlight segment produced throughout the year.
