Gaines averaged 13.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in a 2-1 week for the Mules that included key conference victories over Johns Hopkins and Franklin & Marshall. Gaines opened the week with a game-high 14 points along with nine rebounds in the Mules' 56-52 win at first-place Hopkins, handing the Blue Jays their first conference loss of the season. He followed that up with a game-high-tying 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting with six assists and six boards in a 56-45 home win over F&M. For the week, he shot 56% (14-of-25) from the field, 66.7% (6-of-9) from three-point range, and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.
