Swarthmore & Hopkins to Meet in Championship for Third Straight Year

The 2020 Centennial Conference men's basketball championship will feature a pair of familiar foes as top-seeded and top-ranked Swarthmore and second-seeded and eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins will square off for the conference trophy for the third year in a row on Saturday in Tarble Pavilion. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Friday's first semifinal featured JHU against third-seeded Haverford, with the Blue Jays (23-3) shaking off a slow start en route to a 70-52 triumph over the Fords (16-10). Conner Delaney and Tom Quarry combined for 34 points to lead the way for Hopkins, which advances to its 12th Centennial title game. The Blue Jays will look to claim the fifth conference crown in program history on Saturday.

In the nightcap, the host Garnet (26-0) held off Muhlenberg (19-8) in front of a packed crowd at Tarble Pavilion. Colin Shaw sank a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to clinch the win. Swarthmore's offensive attack was spread out with five different players crossing the 10-point mark. Ryan Ingram splashed four 3-pointers for a team-leading 12 points. With the win, the Garnet broke the Centennial Conference record for longest winning streak and advanced to the championship round for the fifth consecutive season and the sixth time in program history. The previous conference record of 25-straight wins was held by Franklin & Marshall in 1994-95.

The Garnet have won two of the last three Centennial titles, including a 79-61 victory over JHU last winter. Hopkins defeated Swarthmore in the 2018 title game at Tarble Pavilion by a 61-57 count.
