WHEELING, W.Va. – Jared Berlin wrapped up the 2021 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship with a 40th place finish after final round of 78 (+7) on Friday. Berlin completes the four-round, 72-hole event with a score of 302 (+19) for the week.
Starting out on the No. 10, the Diplomats' junior got his day off to a quick start with birdies on two of his first three holes. Those birdies gave him 11 for the tournament which ranked among the top 10 players in the championship field. In addition to gaining strokes on those holes, Berlin finished the championship event with 36 pars and his one eagle on Thursday. In total, he played 48 of his 72 holes to par or better.
After his quick start to the day, Berlin finished out the back-nine at 4-over (39). Wrapping up on the front nine, has was 3-over on those holes to finish tournament tied with seven other players. Par-5s were definitely a strength of the F&M junior throughout the tournament as he finished 1-under on those holes. He was 9-over on the par-3s and 11-over on the par-4s.
Berlin's round at the NCAA Championships caps an abbreviated season which saw him take home medalist honors at the F&M Invitational and finish just one stroke off the lead at the McDaniel Spring Invitational. Berlin also earned All-Centennial Conference honors for the second time in his career. He placed fourth at the Centennial Conference Championships to help F&M win its sixth conference title in seven championship events.
Looking ahead, there is plenty of reason for continued optimism around the Diplomats' program as all five players who made their NCAA debuts will return for at least one more season with the Diplomats. In addition to Berlin, Jas Fuhrer, Michael Gallagher, Jordan Hubal, and Dominic Sculti led F&M to the conference championship and a 27th-place team finish at the NCAA Championship.
