GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Jason Badecki, who has spent the last two years as the head golf coach at Penn State Harrisburg, will take on the mantle of head men's golf coach at Gettysburg College, sliding into the role previously held by Nate Davis. Davis will assume more administrative duties within the athletics department alongside his responsibilities as head coach of the women's basketball program.

"We are excited to have Jay take over the men's golf program," said Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation Mike Mattia. "He has a track record of success at each stop along his career.  He'll be taking over a strongly established program, and his passion for the game and ability to coach and mentor student-athletes will no doubt lead to continued success for Bullets golf."

Badecki takes over a successful golf program that captured the Centennial Conference championship in 2019 and finished one stroke shy of the title in 2021. The Bullets have posted the lowest three season scoring averages in program history over the course of the last three seasons with Davis earning CC Coach of the Year honors twice.

"I'm extremely excited to be taking over the program at Gettysburg and am fired up to get started," said Badecki. "Nate and Kaleigh have done an incredible job in a short amount of time and I am looking forward to building upon the foundation they have laid."

Badecki arrives in Gettysburg following a two-year stint at Penn State Harrisburg. The team was and developing into a conference contender after posting three top-10 showings in fall competition before the COVID-19 pandemic halted play in the spring. Prior to Penn State, Badecki was the head men's and women's golf coach at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He led the Big Red to six tournament victories and coached four Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Scholar All-Americans.

This will mark the second time Badecki has followed in the footsteps of Davis as a golf coach. In 2013, Badecki took the reins from Davis as head coach of the women's team at Eastern University and quickly led the squad to the top of the Middle Atlantic Conference. He was named the MAC Women's Golf Coach of the Year as the Eagles won the MAC championship and made the program's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships. Badecki, who also coached the Eagles' men's team for several campaigns, guided the women to 13 all-conference honors and six WGCA Scholar All-America selections.

As an undergraduate, Badecki began his career at Salem County Community College before transferring to Rutgers-Camden. He was twice named a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Scholar-Athlete before graduating with a degree in marketing. Badecki earned his MBA in business administration from Eastern.

Badecki inherits a strong golf program at Gettysburg that has claimed four conference titles and finished conference runner-up on four other occasions. This past spring, the team averaged 307 strokes per round, which marked the third-best scoring average in program history. The Bullets won the team title at three events and finished runner-up at the CC Championship. Davis was named CC Co-Coach of the Year, while senior Quinn Greene and freshman Cameron Deiuliis were tabbed CC Player of the Year and CC Rookie of the Year, respectively. Junior Hayden Moffat was also named all-conference.

"My goals and expectations of the program are probably not much different than [Nate and Kaleigh]," noted Badecki. "The goal is to build a nationally competitive program that is in the top 25 each year by finding and developing high character student athletes. We will hold our student athletes to a high standard of excellence on and off the course and create a competitive culture."

With Badecki taking over the golf program, Davis has been elevated to Assistant Director of Athletics and remains head coach of the women's basketball program. Davis, who will still work with the golf program on an administrative level, was previously the Director of Athletics and Athletic Development at Eastern before arriving in Gettysburg in 2015. The Mansfield University graduate and former Marine has produced an incredible run with the basketball team, leading the squad to a 109-29 (.790) record, one conference title, and three trips to the NCAA tournament in five seasons. He was named the CC Coach of the Year in women's basketball after leading the Bullets to the conference title in 2018.

"I appreciate Nate stepping into an administrative role that has been open for over a year," Mattia stated. "As we get back into a more normal rhythm after a very difficult year and work in conjunction with the rest of the institution as part of the strategic planning process, Nate's experience as an athletic director in the past will be a huge asset to the department as we chart a path forward into the future."
