Hopkins & Muhlenberg Notch Road Wins, Advance to CC Title Gamee

Championship Central

Johns Hopkins and Muhlenberg each notched road victories in Friday night's semifinals to advance to the Centennial Conference men's soccer championship.

In Chestertown, Md., third-seeded Hopkins edged second-seeded Washington College 1-0 on a penalty kick from Ian Whamond in the 76th minute. The win also marked the 200th in JHU head coach Craig Appleby's career. The Blue Jays advance to the title game for the eighth time in program history. The Blue Jays have won nine CC titles, with two of those occurring prior to the conference tournament format that was implemented in 2001.

In Lancaster, Pa., fifth-seeded Muhlenberg blanked top-seeded Franklin & Marshall 2-0 to advance to the championship for the first time since 2014. The Mules received goals from Trevor Mikuta just 63 seconds into the contest and Chris Richards in the 75th minute. Muhlenberg is seeking its fourth tournament title and seventh overall Centennial crown.

Hopkins will host the Mules in Sunday's championship at 3 p.m. at Homewood Field. This will mark the second time the two sides have met for the title, with the other coming in 2003. Muhlenberg won that matchup 2-1 in Allentown.
