Championship Central

Johns Hopkins and Muhlenberg advanced to the Centennial Conference men's soccer semifinals with hard-fought decisions on Tuesday night.

In Baltimore, Md., the third-seeded Blue Jays outlasted sixth-seeded Dickinson 4-2 in penalty kicks after a 2-2 score through 110 minutes of play. In regulation, the Blue Jays received goals from Francis Meyer and Jonathan Cui while Saul Iwowo scored twice for the visiting Red Devils. Tyler White made the winning penalty kick on the Blue Jays' fifth attempt. JHU will travel to Washington College for a 7 p.m. contest in Friday's semifinals.

In Gettysburg, Pa., fifth-seeded Muhlenberg defeated fourth-seeded Gettysburg 1-0 to secure its first win on an opponent's home field in the CC playoffs since 2004. Muhlenberg scored the lone goal of the game off a corner kick with 9:44 left in the first half. Sophomore Jake Mendelson took the corner and booted it past the far post. Andrew Gaines headed it back across the box to Mendelson, who shot it into the side netting for his first career goal. Playing with 10 players for the final 20 minutes, the Mules successfully held the Bullets off the scoreboard down the stretch to move onto the semifinals. Muhlenberg will travel to Lancaster to face top-seeded Franklin & Marshall for a 7 p.m. start on Friday.
