All Three CC Teams Advance to NCAA Second Round

Franklin & Marshall, Johns Hopkins and Muhlenberg each advanced to the second round of the NCAA men's soccer tournament on Saturday. 

In Lancaster, Pa., seventh-ranked F&M (13-2-4) topped Saint Joseph (Conn.) 2-0 behind goals from Nathan Schlessinger and Adam Green. The Diplomats will take on Cortland State (13-5-2) on Sunday at 3 p.m. Cortland defeated Medaille 5-2 in the other matchup at Tylus Field. 

 

In Baltimore, Md., 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins downed Lehman 3-0 at Homewood Field to advance to the second round of the NCAAs for the ninth consecutive tournament. Tim Treinen buried a penalty kick and Scotty Coleman and Jonathan Cui also found the back of the net for the Blue Jays. JHU (13-1-7) will meet John Carroll (16-4-1) in Sunday's second round at 6 p.m. John Carroll blanked Scranton 3-0 in the other first round game in Baltimore. 

In Lexington, Va., CC champion Muhlenberg extended its season with a shootout for the second-straight game, defeating 24th-ranked Case Western 5-4 on penalty kicks following a scoreless tie through 110 minutes of play. Jason Edelstein buried the game-clinching penalty kick to send Muhlenberg to the second round. The Mules (8-5-8) will play 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee, a 5-1 winner against Brevard in the other first round match, on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
