Garnet Women, Diplomat Men Take Leads at Swimming Championships

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Franklin & Marshall men and Swarthmore women jumped out to narrow leads on day two of the Centennial Conference Swimming Championships at Bullets Pool. 

On the men's side, Swarthmore's Alec Menzer provided the highlight of the evening with a championship-record-breaking performance in the 500 freestyle. Menzer touched the wall in 4:30.39, breaking the previous record of 4:30.70 set in 2014. F&M's Chris Schiavone also set a record on Friday night, breaking the Gettysburg pool record in the 50 freestyle at 19.99 en route to gold. 

Other men's gold medalists on Friday night included F&M's Tom Graminski in the 200 IM (1:51.19) and the Diplomats' 400 medley relay of Alec Wahl, Graminski, Jack Sinton and Schiavone (3:19.88). 

For the women, Gettysburg captured three of the four possible gold medals during Friday's action to pull within 6.5 points of first-place Swarthmore. Anna Lyn won the 500 freestyle (5:01.75) in the opening race of the night for the Garnet, before Gettysburg's Talia Moss (200 IM; 2:09.79), Kate Crilly (50 free; 23.80) and the 400 medley relay of Hannah Wasson, Moss, Elissa Clancy and Crilly (3:52.71) captured victories for the Bullets.
