• The Short Story: The 24th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team beat 30th-ranked Swarthmore, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon to win the program's 13thconsecutive Centennial Conference Championship.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins took a narrow 2-1 lead into singles play and then won at the top three singles spots to reclaim the tournament championship. Sophomore Vishnu Joshi and junior Vik Vasan turned in an impressive comeback at third to grab the first point of the match. The duo trailed Evan Han and Simon Vernier 6-3, but rallied to win the match 8-7 (1) to put JHU up 1-0.
• Juniors Joe Cartledge and Austin Gu followed with an 8-6 win at first over John Lathrop and Thibault Vernier to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. The Garnet answered when Noah Criss and Jiung Jung beat junior Aaron Carey and senior Scott Thygesen, 8-6, at second.
• Gu raced out to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lathrop at second singles to put Hopkins up 3-1. Thygesen then beat Vernier 6-1, 6-4 at third and the lead was 4-1. Joshi closed out the match with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win over Jung at first.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 24-26 all-time against Swarthmore and has won seven straight and 22 of the last 23 matches. The Blue Jays are 10-0 against the Garnet in the Centennial Conference Tournament.
• JHU has now won 13 straight titles and 14 overall since the 2005 season.
• Gu was named the tournament's most valuable player after going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.
• Cartledge is now tied for 21st in school history with 43 career doubles wins. Gu meanwhile is tied for 19th with 76 combined career wins.
