CHATTANOOGA, TN – Johns Hopkins men's tennis senior Vishnu Joshi won his first two matches at the 2021 NCAA Singles Championship to advance to the quarterfinals. He is the number three seed in the tournament.

Joshi opened the day with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Hardin-Simmons' Alex Pavkovich in the round of 32. That win earned him All-America honors for the third time in his career. Joshi then defeated Jake Macey of Wisconsin-Whitewater 6-0, 6-3.

Joshi is now tied for 23rd in school history with 34 career singles wins. He is just the fourth Blue Jay to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals for singles and is just the second to be seeded in the draw. In addition, Joshi is just the third player in school history to earn All-America honors in singles at least three times, joining Mike Buxbaum and David Maldow.

He is the 11th player in Centennial Conference history to advance to the quarterfinal round of the singles championship, and the first since 2007.

Joshi returns to action on Saturday at 10:30 am and will face the winner of fifth-seeded Boris Turkin and Ian Yi.
