David Kurvink, who brought the programs at nearby DeSales University to new heights, has been hired as Muhlenberg's first full-time coach of men's and women's tennis.

"I would like to thank Lynn Tubman, director of athletics, the rest of the athletic staff and Muhlenberg College administration for the opportunity to lead the men's and women's tennis programs as the new full-time head coach," he said. "Muhlenberg College has a reputation of quality student-athletes in the classroom and on the courts. I plan to recruit a strong team of athletes to continue the culture of competitive tennis at Muhlenberg."

Kurvink coached both DeSales teams after the programs were reinstated in 2016 and led them to an outstanding combined record of 99-48. The women qualified for the MAC Freedom playoffs all four years in which they were held, advancing to the championship match in 2017 and 2019. The men also earned postseason berths all four years after having just one playoff appearance in their history prior to Kurvink's arrival.

In addition to his coaching success at DeSales, Kurvink brings a wealth of coaching and playing experience that includes director and head pro positions across the country, including head men's tennis coach at nationally ranked Methodist University (2008-11), where he led the Monarchs to the conference semifinals twice. He also coached two years at Adrian College, helping to rebuild the men's and women's programs.

A three-time MAC Freedom coach of the year (men's in 2021, both men's and women's in 2017), Kurvink also was honored as USTA/EPD college coach of the year and USTA teaching professional of the year. He is a Master Racquet Technician (MRT), which is the highest standard of excellence in the racquet service industry, and in 2018 was named to the Lehigh Valley Business 40 under 40.

Kurvink is a 2003 graduate of Moravian College, where he posted a record of 50-17 and earned all-conference honors all four years. He received his master's in school counseling from St. Lawrence University.

Kurvink is heavily involved in the tennis community and spends a generous amount of time volunteering in different capacities. He is CEO at Kids Play Tennis Community Outreach Program, a non-profit for the development of tennis among underprivileged youth in the Lehigh Valley. KPT has earned numerous awards, including 2016 and 2017 USTA/MS Premier Facility, 2015 USTA/EPD Community Tennis Facility of the Year and 2016 and 2017 USTA Middle States CTA of the Year.

Kurvink is currently on the USTA National Community Tennis Association Committee. He also served on the USTA Middle States Board of Directors for four terms and is currently the Chair of USTA Eastern Pennsylvania.
