LANCASTER, Pa. -- Washington College collected four of the five major awards to lead the 2021 All-Centennial Softball Team. A total of 30 athletes received All-CC honors.
The Shorewomen nearly swept the top honors, with senior outfielder Grace Moery named Player of the Year, freshman pitcher Lexi Barnhart Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, and first-year head coach Sally Snover tabbed as Coach of the Year by her peers. Muhlenberg junior catcher Genna Cicchetti secured the other standalone award as Gold Glove of the Year.
It marks just the third time in conference history and first time since 1995 that both the Player and Pitcher of the Year come from the same team.
Moery's Player of the Year honor is the third in Washington College softball history, with former standout Taylor Harcum having earned back-to-back POTY awards in 2017 and 2018. Through 18 games this spring, Moery batted .367 with a .387 on-base percentage and .700 slugging percentage. She led the CC in home runs (4) and triples (3), ranked second in slugging (.700), fourth in RBIs (15), and sixth in runs scored (13).
Barnhart becomes the second Shorewomen to claim Pitcher of the Year accolades and just the second player in CC history to win both Pitcher and Rookie of the Year laurels in the same year. Former Shorewomen Maddie Bennett, was Pitcher and Rookie of the Year in 2016. Barnhart posted a 10-3 record in the circle with 2.94 ERA, 11 complete games, 89 strikeouts and 40 walks in 93.0 innings across 17 appearances. She led the conference in strikeouts per seven innings, total strikeouts, innings pitched and complete games this spring.
Cicchetti repeated as Gold Glove of the Year after another stellar season behind the plate for Muhlenberg. The junior also claimed the award in 2019 as a freshman. She led all CC catchers with two double plays turned from behind the plate, tied for first in in runners-caught stealing (4), and posted a 1.000 fielding percentage with just one passed ball in 16 games.
In her first year at the helm in Chestertown, Snover was selected by her fellow coaches as Coach of the Year. Snover helped lead the Shorewomen to a 10-8 overall mark and 8-4 record in CC play, including a six-game winning streak to close out the year.
Two players received All-Centennial awards for the third time in their careers - McDaniel senior outfielder Michaela Persinger and Gettysburg senior designated player Shelby Baker. Five others earned their second all-star nods - McDaniel junior catcher Megan Horsey, Cichetti, Ursinus junior outfielder Mackenzie Brennan, Washington College junior second baseman Megan Robbins, and Ursinus senior outfielder Morgan Comfort.
McDaniel leads all teams with 64 All-Centennial first-team selections, followed by Ursinus (56), Gettysburg (53), Muhlenberg (39), Washington College (30), Dickinson (26), Haverford (25), Franklin & Marshall (22) and Swarthmore (10).
