BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior Elle Larsen became the 10th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point milestone in leading the Swarthmore College women's basketball team to a 75-47 victory over Johns Hopkins on Thursday, Jan. 30 at Goldfarb Gym. The Garnet shot 50 percent from the floor, including a blistering 53.3 percent from long range, to remain in contention for a conference playoff berth.

Swarthmore, which led for nearly the entire contest, got on the board first by getting a 3-pointer from senior Stephanie Lechich on its first possession. Larsen, who followed with two free throws to give the Garnet an early 5-0 lead, netted her 1,000th point on another try from the stripe at the 13:58 mark to put the visitors up 13-9.

After Johns Hopkins (12-6, CC 10-3) came within two by getting a pair of free throws from junior Ciara McCullagh, Swarthmore embarked on a 10-0 run to seize control. Senior Katie Lytle and Larsen accounted for all of the scoring as well as three assists during the stretch to help push the Garnet ahead by a 23-11 score before a Maggie O'Neil trifecta helped give the visitors a 32-18 cushion heading into the break.

Swarthmore stayed ahead by twin figures throughout the second half. O'Neil extended the Garnet lead to 18 at less than five minutes into the stanza with a conventional 3-point play, and a shot by Lytle from beyond the arc made it 50-29 and forced the Blue Jays to take a timeout. The margin grew to as many 29 on a Jordyn Bell free throw in the waning minutes, which was more than enough insurance for the Garnet to come away with a key road win.

Larsen netted 20 points to help pace Swarthmore and ended the evening with 1,017 in her career. Lytle recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds to go along with four assists, while O'Neil had 13 points, six boards and a blocked shot off the bench.

Senior Fatu Conteh scored 13 points to lead Johns Hopkins, which failed to make a shot from downtown and was held to only 23.9 percent shooting from the floor. Maggie Fruehan, a junior, contributed eight points and grabbed nine boards.

Swarthmore (11-8, CC 6-7), which has won seven of its last 10 games, will look to win its fourth conference game in a row when it hosts Franklin & Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m.
