Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Four players reached double-figures as the Gettysburg College women's basketball team took down Muhlenberg College 66-51 in the opening round of the Centennial Conference Tournament inside Memorial Hall Wednesday night.

Gettysburg (16-9) advances to face host and top seed Haverford (21-3) in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Friday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. McDaniel College (19-5) and Johns Hopkins University (17-7) square off in Friday's second semi at 8 p.m. The two semifinal winners will meet for the conference title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Gettysburg received one of its most balanced scoring performances of the season as four players scored 10 or more points with a fifth sitting at nine tallies. Senior Alyssa Isler (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) led the way with 15 points and sophomore Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) added 14 points. Senior Caroline Murphy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) turned in 13 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. Those three players were also a combined 18-for-18 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) led the Bullets' bench with 10 points and senior Rianna Doane (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) finished with nine tallies.

Muhlenberg (16-10) was led by Erin Laney, who finished 7-of-12 from the floor en route to 16 points. Laney was the lone Mule starter to shoot above 50 percent as Gettysburg's defense held the remaining four to just 7-of-28 from the floor (25 percent).

Muhlenberg jumped out in front 10-8 before Gettysburg erupted for a 12-2 run. The Bullets scored on four consecutive possessions during the spurt, including back-to-back three-pointers by senior Cori Younghans (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) and Doane, to take a 20-12 lead with 6:18 before halftime.

After cutting the deficit to five at the half, Muhlenberg picked up a three-pointer by Laney to start the second and pull the score to 23-21. That would be as close as the hosts would get as Gettysburg scored the next nine points with a bucket by Duggan setting the advantage at 11 (32-21) with over 17 minutes left to play.

The Mules would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way with the Bullets jumping ahead by as many as 20 points twice inside the final five minutes of play.

Gettysburg finished 20-of-51 from the field (39.2 percent) with seven of those field goals coming from beyond the arc. The Bullets were near-perfect from the charity stripe, hitting 19-of-21 attempts (90.5 percent), all in the second period. The visitors also out-rebounded the hosts 40-30 and dished out 17 assists against just 12 turnovers.

Gettysburg will face Haverford for the third time this season. The Fords won both previous meetings, earning a 64-58 victory at home on Jan. 14 and defeating the Bullets 55-52 inside Bream Gym on Feb. 15.
