SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Basketball will have a new head coach in 2019-20, Marian Ware Director of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Adam Hertz announced on Wednesday. The Garnet selected Candice Signor-Brown as the program's new head coach. Signor-Brown comes to Swarthmore after coaching at Vassar College for the past 10 seasons.

"We are glad to have Candice as the newest member of the Swarthmore Athletics family," Hertz said. "She brings a wealth of experience and success from her time at Vassar and her philosophy complements ours."

She posted a .600 win percentage at Vassar and a record of 159 wins and 106 losses. Prior to her time at Vassar, Signor-Brown coached for three years at Manhattanville College.

Signor-Brown guided the Vassar Brewers on their 2018-19 run to the NCAA Tournament and earned the Liberty League's Coaching Staff of the Year recognition for the third time. The Brewers won 16 consecutive games and finished with a 21-7 record. Signor-Brown has coached teams to the NCAA Tournament in four different seasons.

The academic success of her student-athletes is incredibly important to Signor-Brown as well. Last year, her Vassar team had the second-highest GPA in all of Division III (3.763).

"Words can't express my excitement to be named the next women's basketball coach at Swarthmore College," Signor-Brown said. "Swarthmore is a great academic institution and I believe its academic reputation will attract some of the best talent in the country. I am extremely thankful to Adam Hertz and the search committee for this great opportunity. I am confident that in the years to come the Swarthmore women's basketball program will be competitive and a Centennial Conference Championship contender. "

She attended and played basketball at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, and scored 1,130 points in just three seasons. She placed on the All-America First Team in her junior and senior seasons and helped lead her team all the way to the Division III Final Four in her final campaign.

Signor-Brown takes the place of Renee DeVarney who stepped down after coaching Swarthmore Women's Basketball for 14 seasons.

Swarthmore Women's Basketball opens the 2019-20 season on the road at Alvernia on Nov. 11.
