Gettysburg Tops Women's Golf Preseason Poll

Gettysburg Tops Women's Golf Preseason Poll

LANCASTER, Pa. – Nine-time defending champion Gettysburg has been chosen as the favorite to repeat in the 2020 Centennial Conference Women's Golf Preseason Poll. The Bullets received six first-place votes and 48 points to claim the top spot in avote among conference head coaches.

Marymount, which finished second at last year's championship, was picked second in the voting with 44 points and the two remaining first-place tallies. Dickinson was projected third with 36 points, followed closely by Muhlenberg (32) in fourth. McDaniel (19), Ursinus (18), Franklin & Marshall (14) and first-year associate member Cabrini (13) rounded out the poll in fifth through eighth, respectively.

Several Centennial teams will begin their spring seasons within the next few weeks, with the majority of the spring schedule taking place in late March through mid-April. The 2020 Centennial Conference championship is set for April 18-19 at Conestoga Country Club in Lancaster.

Gettysburg won its unprecented ninth straight Centennial Conference women's golf title last spring at Conestoga Country Club. The Bullets posted a 36-hole team score of 694 to top second place Marymount (719) by 25 shots. Dickinson (733) claimed third place, narrowly edging Muhlenberg (734) by just one stroke.

In the 19-year history of Centennial women's golf, only three programs have hoisted the conference trophy. The Bullets have claimed nearly half of the conference's titles with nine, while McDaniel won seven of the first 10 championships and Muhlenberg owns the other two.

A trio of All-Centennial golfers return to the course this spring, headlined by Gettysburg's duo of Skylar Frankiewicz and Hannah Fireman. The dynamic duo of Bullet seniors have earned All-Centennial honors each of their three seasons, and will look to become just the seventh and eighth golfers in conference history to receive four all-star awards this spring. McDaniel's Meg Schlesinger was an all-conference performer in 2018 with a fifth-place finish at the CC championship.

The Bullets hold the top team scoring average from the fall with 336.4 strokes per round, followed closely by Marymount (345) and Dickinson (348).
